Job Overview
House of Seeds is seeking a motivated Sales Representative to join our team in Mbale, Uganda. This role focuses on connecting farmers across the Eastern region with high-quality seeds and expert agronomic solutions that improve yields and livelihoods. You will be instrumental in driving sales growth while building lasting relationships with farming communities.
As a Sales Representative, you will operate in a dynamic field-based environment, traveling to meet customers, demonstrate products, and provide tailored recommendations. The position requires someone who is passionate about agriculture, possesses strong interpersonal skills, and is committed to delivering excellent customer service in support of House of Seeds’ mission to grow prosperity through better seeds.
This is a full-time opportunity ideal for candidates with a background in sales, agriculture, or customer-facing roles who are eager to contribute to food security and farmer empowerment in Uganda. You will work closely with technical and management teams to ensure customer needs are met and market opportunities are captured effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive sales of seed products by actively identifying and engaging potential farming customers in Mbale and surrounding districts.
- Deliver excellent customer service by responding promptly to inquiries and providing accurate product information and planting advice.
- Manage and update customer leads and records in the Senri CRM system to ensure accurate tracking of interactions and follow-ups.
- Submit detailed weekly sales activity reports including calls made, visits conducted, and sales closed to monitor performance.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of company products, pricing structures, and competitor offerings to position solutions effectively.
- Support existing customers through regular check-ins and assist in managing demo sites to showcase product performance.
- Adhere strictly to company policies, including expense management and ethical sales practices in all field activities.
- Collaborate with the technical team to relay farmer feedback and market insights for product improvement and training development.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Minimum of a diploma in Agriculture, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- At least two years of proven experience in sales, preferably in agricultural inputs, FMCG, or rural market environments.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve sales targets and build strong relationships with farmers and agro-dealers.
- Proficiency in using mobile technology and basic CRM systems for recording sales activities and customer data.
- Willingness to travel extensively within the Mbale region and work flexible hours to meet customer needs.
- Fluency in English and Lugisu or other local languages spoken in Eastern Uganda for effective communication.
Desirable
- Experience working with seed companies, cooperatives, or NGOs involved in agricultural extension services.
- Knowledge of seed varieties, planting seasons, and agronomic practices relevant to Eastern Uganda’s agro-ecological zones.
- Previous use of Senri or similar sales management software for tracking leads and performance metrics.
- Basic understanding of financial literacy concepts to assist farmers with input financing options when applicable.
- Valid motorcycle or driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle for field operations.
- Participation in agricultural training programs or workshops demonstrating commitment to sector development.
