Job Overview
Roofings Uganda, a leading manufacturer and supplier of building materials, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Advocacy & Corporate Communications. This pivotal role is responsible for shaping the company’s external narrative, influencing public policy, and safeguarding its reputation in Uganda’s dynamic business environment. The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer and will be instrumental in aligning communication strategies with corporate objectives to drive growth and brand equity. The position requires a strategic thinker who can navigate complex regulatory landscapes and build robust relationships with government officials, industry stakeholders, and the public. As the voice of Roofings Uganda in key policy discussions, you will ensure the company’s interests are well-represented and its contributions to the Ugandan economy are highlighted effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive advocacy strategy that aligns with Roofings Uganda’s corporate objectives and market positioning.
- Monitor, analyze, and interpret government policies, legislation, and regulatory developments that could impact the company’s operations and growth trajectory.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with government officials, policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders across local, regional, and international markets.
- Represent Roofings Uganda and its affiliates in industry forums, associations, and public policy discussions to promote the company’s leadership position.
- Spearhead stakeholder engagement initiatives to promote the company’s leadership position on key industry issues and foster positive public perception.
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure advocacy efforts are aligned with business priorities and operational realities.
- Prepare policy briefs, position papers, and communication materials that effectively communicate the company’s stance to internal and external stakeholders.
- Identify advocacy risks and opportunities, providing timely advisory to senior management to inform strategic decision-making.
- Drive corporate reputation management through proactive engagement, thought leadership, and crisis communication planning.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory and governance frameworks by working closely with user departments and legal teams.
- Drive timely and favourable finalisation of all advocacy initiatives aimed at enhancing business revenues, reducing costs, and building a superior brand image.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- PhD or master’s degree in law, finance, political science, public policy, communications, or a closely related field from a recognised institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in advocacy, public affairs, government relations, or corporate communications for PhD holders, or 7 years for master’s degree holders.
- Proven experience engaging with government institutions, regulatory bodies, and key stakeholders in Uganda or the East African region.
- Strong understanding of policy development processes, legislative frameworks, and the regulatory environment in Uganda.
- Excellent strategic thinking, analytical skills, and the ability to develop persuasive arguments and communication materials.
- Outstanding stakeholder management skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels of government and industry.
Desirable
- Membership to a professional body in economics, statistics, law, or government relations, such as the Institute of Corporate Governance or Uganda Society for Public Administration.
- Previous experience working in the manufacturing, construction, or building materials sector in Uganda.
- Fluency in Kiswahili and English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience representing companies in regional trade associations or international advocacy forums.
- Track record of successful advocacy campaigns that resulted in tangible policy outcomes or business benefits.
