Outlet Assistant

Job Overview

The Outlet Assistant plays a vital role in the daily operations of Yalelo Uganda’s retail outlets. This position is responsible for ensuring that all activities at the outlet, from stock handling to customer service, are conducted efficiently and in accordance with company standards. The role is designed to support the Outlet Supervisor in achieving sales targets while maintaining high levels of hygiene and safety.

Working at the outlet, the Assistant will be the face of Yalelo Uganda to customers, providing a seamless and positive shopping experience. The ideal candidate is someone who is detail-oriented, a quick learner, and possesses strong interpersonal skills. This is a full-time position offering a stable career path within a growing company in Uganda’s competitive retail sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate actively in driving sales growth by implementing initiatives and engaging in activities designed to increase outlet revenue.
• Deliver exceptional customer service by ensuring the store appearance is appealing, fish displays are attractive, and stock ordering meets customer needs.
• Follow up on customer complaints and escalate them appropriately to ensure satisfactory solutions are found for both the customer and the company.
• Receive stock supplies and organize inventory effectively, ensuring fridges are always stocked to meet anticipated customer demand.
• Perform regular quality assurance checks on fish products, enforcing proper handling, storage, processing, and packing techniques to maintain freshness.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of all fish products, including new offers, and confidently share this information with customers and colleagues.
• Take and prepare customer orders accurately and efficiently, ensuring all specifications are met before finalizing the transaction.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent, demonstrating a solid educational foundation and the ability to learn new concepts quickly.
• Proven experience in a customer-facing retail role, preferably within the food or fish industry, showing a track record of good customer service.
• Excellent communication skills in both English and Luganda, enabling effective interaction with a diverse customer base and team members.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high hygiene and safety standards in all work areas.

Desirable

• Prior experience working in a fast-paced retail environment, specifically with perishable goods like fresh fish, is highly advantageous.
• Certification in food safety or hygiene handling would demonstrate a proactive approach to maintaining quality standards.
• Basic numeracy and literacy skills sufficient for handling cash, stock counts, and simple record-keeping tasks.
• Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts as required by the outlet’s operational needs.
