Job Overview

The Programme Coordinator at Aga Khan Foundation in Uganda plays a pivotal role in managing the Student Support Programme for refugee students enrolled at Aga Khan School Kampala. This position ensures academic success, legal compliance, and holistic integration of students from primary to secondary level.

With over 111 refugee students currently enrolled, the coordinator will oversee intensive English language support, coordinate with school management, and manage stakeholder relationships to facilitate smooth integration into the Uganda National Curriculum and Cambridge IGCSE programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the overall Student Support Programme from primary to secondary level, ensuring effective academic interventions are implemented.
  • Serve as the central point of contact between the school, Aga Khan Education Board Uganda, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure seamless collaboration.
  • Ensure all enrolled children possess and maintain required documentation for legal compliance and student integration.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, including English language proficiency development and academic performance across all levels.
  • Develop and implement strategies for the planned enrollment of students aged 14-18 into pre-IGCSE intensive English and vocational pathways.
  • Collaborate with school management and teachers to design and deliver parallel education offerings for students requiring additional language support.
  • Manage stakeholder communication, including parents, refugee agencies, and government bodies, to ensure comprehensive student support.
  • Prepare regular reports and documentation for Aga Khan Education Board and other relevant authorities on programme implementation and outcomes.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, Public Administration, or a related field with a minimum of three years of experience in educational coordination or student support programmes.
  • Proven experience in managing educational programmes for refugee or marginalised student populations, with strong knowledge of Uganda’s education system and legal requirements.
  • Excellent coordination, communication, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams including school management, teachers, and external agencies.
  • Strong organisational and administrative capabilities, including experience in documentation management, reporting, and programme monitoring.

Desirable

  • Master’s degree in Education, International Development, or a related field with additional experience in humanitarian or refugee education programmes.
  • Experience working with Cambridge Curriculum, IGCSE, or International Baccalaureate programmes in Uganda or similar contexts.
  • Familiarity with Aga Khan Education Board structures and processes, including knowledge of Uganda’s refugee education policies and frameworks.
  • Proficiency in Kiswahili or other local languages commonly spoken by refugee populations in Uganda would be an added advantage.
