Job Overview

Green Vocational College in Mbizzinya-Buwama is seeking a dynamic and experienced Principal to provide strategic leadership and academic oversight for this growing technical and vocational education institution. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving institutional excellence, ensuring quality training delivery, and fostering strong community and industry partnerships. This is a full-time leadership position reporting to the Educational Development Initiative (EDI) board.

The Principal will play a pivotal role in shaping the college’s vision, managing academic programs, and ensuring compliance with national TVET standards. Candidates must demonstrate proven leadership in technical/vocational education settings with a commitment to skills development and youth empowerment in Uganda.

This position offers an opportunity to make a lasting impact on vocational training in the Buwama region while working with a dedicated team of educators and support staff. The college serves students from surrounding districts seeking practical skills for employment and entrepreneurship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and vision for Green Vocational College aligned with national TVET policies and EDI objectives.
  • Oversee all academic programs ensuring curriculum relevance, quality instruction, and effective assessment methods across all departments.
  • Manage college resources including budget allocation, staff recruitment and development, and maintenance of training facilities and equipment.
  • Foster partnerships with local industries, employers, and community organizations to enhance graduate employability and relevance of training programs.
  • Ensure compliance with Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) and Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) regulations and accreditation requirements.
  • Promote student welfare, discipline, and extracurricular activities while maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment.
  • Prepare regular performance reports for the EDI board and stakeholders detailing academic progress, financial status, and institutional development.
  • Lead initiatives for continuous improvement in teaching methodologies, technology integration, and instructor professional development.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical/Vocational Education, Engineering, or a related education field from a recognized university.
  • Minimum five years progressive experience in TVET institutions with at least two years in a senior management or supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Uganda’s TVET policy framework, curriculum development, and assessment systems.
  • Proven ability to manage institutional budgets, human resources, and physical assets effectively in an educational setting.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills with ability to work with diverse stakeholders including students, staff, and community leaders.

Desirable

  • Master’s degree in Educational Management, Technical Education, or a related field.
  • Experience with competency-based training (CBT) implementation and national vocational qualification systems.
  • Background in agricultural technology, business studies, or ICT training programs relevant to local economic needs.
  • Experience in grant writing, project management, or donor-funded educational initiatives.
  • Familiarity with gender-responsive pedagogy and inclusive education practices for diverse learner populations.
