Job Overview

Masheda Palms is seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to manage all financial operations at their resort location in Uganda. This role is essential for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring tax compliance, and supporting strategic decision-making through reliable financial reporting. The successful candidate will work closely with department heads to monitor cash flow, manage accounts payable and receivable, and prepare timely financial statements.

As part of the finance team, the Accountant will play a key role in safeguarding the resort’s financial integrity by overseeing daily accounting functions and contributing to budgeting and forecasting processes. Key Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for all resort transactions including income, expenses, assets, and liabilities in the accounting system.
• Prepare and manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports for management review.
• Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and accounts payable/receivable monthly to ensure accuracy and prevent financial discrepancies.
• Manage the accounts payable process by verifying invoices, processing payments, and maintaining proper documentation for all outgoing funds.
• Handle accounts receivable by issuing invoices, monitoring outstanding payments, and following up with clients to ensure timely collection.
• Oversee daily cash flow operations, prepare cash flow projections, and manage petty cash to ensure sufficient liquidity for resort needs.
• Ensure compliance with Ugandan tax regulations including VAT, income tax, and payroll taxes by preparing and filing accurate returns on time.
• Assist in preparing financial forecasts and annual budgets, providing data-driven insights to support senior management decision-making.
• Collaborate with department managers to ensure financial procedures are followed and provide training on expense reporting and budget adherence.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from a recognized university.
• Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as an Accountant in the hospitality, tourism, or service industry.
• Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar financial management systems.
• Strong knowledge of Ugandan tax laws, financial regulations, and statutory reporting requirements.
• Excellent numerical accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

Desirable

• Professional certification such as ACCA, CPA, or equivalent qualification is an added advantage.
• Experience with payroll processing and statutory deductions (NSSF, PAYE) in Uganda.
• Familiarity with budgeting and forecasting tools used in hotel or resort financial planning.
• Strong communication skills to present financial information clearly to non-finance staff.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
