Job Overview
AsOne High School seeks a dedicated History/CRE Teacher to join their educational team serving the Luuka/Serere community in Uganda. This full-time position offers an opportunity to shape young minds through engaging instruction in History and Christian Religious Education. The role combines academic excellence with character development within a Christ-centered learning environment.
The successful candidate will deliver curriculum-aligned lessons that foster historical understanding, moral grounding, and critical thinking skills. Working under the Director of Studies, the teacher will contribute to academic excellence while nurturing students’ faith and character development. This position begins in January 2027 and requires commitment to the school’s mission of holistic education.
Located in the Serere community, AsOne High School provides quality secondary education grounded in Christian values. The History/CRE Teacher will play a vital role in preparing students for national examinations while instilling responsible citizenship values. Key Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare detailed schemes of work and lesson plans for History and CRE classes following UNEB syllabus guidelines for O-Level and A-Level students.
- Deliver engaging, learner-centered lessons that incorporate interactive teaching methods to promote student participation and historical understanding.
- Develop and administer regular assessments including tests, quizzes, and examinations to evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and progress while preparing reports for parents and school administration as required.
- Participate in subject department meetings, contribute to curriculum development, and collaborate with fellow teachers on interdisciplinary projects.
- Organize and supervise extracurricular activities related to History and CRE such as debate clubs, history tours, and religious fellowship groups.
- Uphold the school’s Christian ethos by integrating faith-based perspectives into lessons while respecting diverse student backgrounds.
- Engage in continuous professional development through workshops, training sessions, and self-study to enhance teaching effectiveness.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Education with specialization in History, Christian Religious Education, or a closely related field from a recognized university.
- Minimum of two years practical teaching experience in History and/or CRE at secondary school level in Uganda or equivalent educational system.
- Valid teaching certificate or license issued by the Ugandan Ministry of Education and Sports authorizing secondary school instruction.
- Demonstrated proficiency in English language both written and spoken as the medium of instruction and communication within the school environment.
- Familiarity with the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) curriculum structure and assessment criteria for History and CRE subjects.
- Ability to create inclusive learning environments that accommodate different learning styles and student abilities effectively.
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification such as a Diploma or Master’s degree in Education, History, Theology, or Religious Studies.
- Experience teaching both O-Level and A-Level classes demonstrating versatility across different academic levels and examination requirements.
- Knowledge of ICT integration in education including use of digital resources, educational software, and online learning platforms.
- Previous involvement in school leadership roles such as class teacher, house master/mistress, or subject coordinator positions.
- Active participation in church or community service activities demonstrating commitment to Christian values beyond the classroom setting.
- Training in special needs education or counseling skills to support students with diverse learning requirements.
