School Bursar – Primary/ Secondary School

Job Overview

AS ONE Ministries Uganda Company Limited seeks a dedicated School Bursar to oversee financial operations for their primary and secondary schools. This role is vital for ensuring transparent and accountable management of school resources within a Christ-centered educational environment. The Bursar will work closely with school leadership to maintain financial health and support educational mission.

Based in the Namutumba, Serere, Luuka Community area of Uganda, this full-time position offers an opportunity to contribute to faith-based education while developing professional financial management skills. The School Bursar serves as the financial backbone of the institution, ensuring that funds are properly collected, recorded, and utilized to support quality education. This role requires integrity, attention to detail, and a commitment to serving the school community with excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day financial operations ensuring efficient and accountable use of all school resources and funds.
• Prepare the annual school budget in collaboration with the Head Teacher and monitor expenditure against it throughout the fiscal year.
• Advise school leadership on financial implications of decisions and proposed activities to support informed decision-making.
• Ensure all financial transactions comply with AsOne Ministries’ financial policies and procedures for transparency.
• Monitor cash flow regularly to ensure the school can meet its operational obligations including staff salaries and utilities.
• Manage fees collection processes including invoicing, receipting, and following up on outstanding payments from parents and guardians.
• Maintain accurate financial records including ledgers, bank reconciliations, and preparation of monthly financial reports.
• Handle procurement processes for school supplies and services while ensuring value for money and proper documentation.
• Oversee inventory management of school assets and supplies to prevent loss and ensure proper utilization.
• Serve as key point of contact for financial matters with parents, guardians, suppliers, and other stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• Minimum Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field from recognized institution.
• At least 2 years of practical experience in financial management, bookkeeping or accounts role.
• Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Excel for financial tracking and reporting.
• Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and financial record-keeping practices.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders including parents.

Desirable

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
• Experience working in educational institution or nonprofit organization setting.
• Knowledge of school fee structures and education sector financial management practices.
• Proficiency with specialized school management software or ERP systems.
• Previous experience with budget preparation and financial forecasting in similar roles.
