Job Overview

Stanbic Bank Uganda seeks a skilled Analyst for Financial Crime Compliance to strengthen its anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing framework. This role is pivotal in safeguarding the bank from financial crime risks through detailed investigations and analysis. The position operates within Uganda’s banking sector, contributing to national and international compliance standards.

As part of Stanbic Bank’s compliance team, you will work on high-risk cases involving Politically Exposed Persons and complex transaction patterns. Your expertise will help detect and prevent illicit financial flows that could harm the institution’s reputation. This is a full-time opportunity based in Uganda for professionals passionate about financial integrity.

The role demands analytical rigor, up-to-date knowledge of financial crime typologies, and collaboration with regulatory bodies. You will support the bank’s mission to operate within legal and ethical boundaries while protecting stakeholders. Success in this position requires discretion, sound judgment, and a commitment to continuous learning in a dynamic regulatory environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth investigations into high-risk Politically Exposed Persons and Politically Influential Persons linked to terrorist financing or money laundering.
  • Analyze complex account transactions and relationships to identify suspicious activities indicative of predicate offences such as bribery or corruption.
  • Monitor transactions and perform enhanced due diligence to assess client risk profiles as a second line of defence against financial crime.
  • Research emerging money laundering and terrorist financing typologies to improve detection methods and update internal awareness materials.
  • Review and evaluate policies, procedures, and systems to recommend improvements that enhance monitoring effectiveness and operational efficiency.
  • Respond to regulatory requests by investigating suspicious activity reports and providing detailed findings to support compliance obligations.
  • Utilize banking surveillance systems to interpret data outputs and trace illicit fund flows across accounts and jurisdictions.
  • Perform data analytics to uncover hidden patterns and trends consistent with money laundering, tax evasion, or sanctions breaches.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Law, Criminal Justice, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in financial crime compliance, anti-money laundering, or fraud investigation within a banking or financial services environment.
  • Proven ability to conduct transaction monitoring, investigate alerts, and analyze complex financial data using compliance tools.
  • Strong understanding of Ugandan and international AML/CFT regulations, including FATF guidelines and Bank of Uganda directives.
  • Proficiency in using financial crime detection software and Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to prepare clear investigation reports and liaise with stakeholders.

Desirable

  • Professional certification such as CAMS, ICA Diploma in AML, or equivalent qualification in financial crime prevention.
  • Experience working with Politically Exposed Persons screening systems and enhanced due diligence frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Sanctions lists, PEP databases, and adverse media monitoring tools used in global banking.
  • Knowledge of exchange control regulations and their application in cross-border transaction monitoring.
  • Prior exposure to regulatory examinations or audits related to financial crime compliance programs.
  • Ability to train junior staff and contribute to the development of compliance awareness programs.

What the Role Offers

  • Competitive monthly salary aligned with banking industry standards in Uganda for mid-level compliance professionals.
  • Comprehensive health insurance coverage for employee and dependents through Stanbic Bank’s approved medical providers.
  • Monthly transport and lunch allowances to support daily commuting and workplace convenience.
  • Access to ongoing professional development including sponsored certifications and internal compliance training programs.
  • Opportunity to work within a leading African financial institution with exposure to regional and global financial crime trends.
