Zupa Financial Services

Job Overview

Zupa Financial Services is seeking motivated Credit Officers to join their growing team across multiple branches in Uganda. This role focuses on identifying potential borrowers, assessing loan needs, and managing the full loan lifecycle from application to repayment. Successful candidates will play a key role in expanding financial access while maintaining strong customer relationships and portfolio quality.

Based at the Gayaza, Mukono, and Iganga branches, this full-time position offers the opportunity to work directly with individuals and small businesses seeking financial solutions. The role combines fieldwork for client acquisition with office-based tasks for loan processing and monitoring. Credit Officers at Zupa contribute directly to the company’s mission of providing accessible financial services to underserved communities.

The position requires a proactive approach to business development, strong analytical skills for credit assessment, and excellent interpersonal abilities for customer relationship management. Working hours follow a standard full-time schedule from 8 AM to 5 PM, with potential for field visits during these hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and recruit potential borrowers through community engagement and referral networks in assigned branch areas.
  • Assess individual and business loan needs by conducting interviews and evaluating financial capacity for repayment.
  • Process loan applications accurately by verifying documentation, completing forms, and submitting for approval within set timelines.
  • Monitor loan repayments closely by tracking due dates, following up with clients, and maintaining accurate portfolio performance records.
  • Establish and maintain strong customer relationships through regular communication, quality service, and addressing client concerns promptly.
  • Provide quality customer service by explaining loan terms clearly, offering financial guidance, and ensuring client satisfaction throughout the loan cycle.
  • Contribute to branch sales targets by actively seeking new clients and promoting Zupa’s loan products to eligible individuals and businesses.
  • Prepare regular reports on loan disbursements, repayments, and portfolio status for branch management review and decision-making.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of a diploma from a recognised university or institution in any field, preferably related to business, finance, or social sciences.
  • Good communication skills in English, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with clients and team members.
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision, demonstrating initiative and reliability in managing daily tasks and client interactions.
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills sufficient for processing loan applications, calculating interest, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Willingness to travel within the branch catchment area for client visits and community outreach activities as required.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in microfinance, banking, or financial services is an added advantage for understanding loan products and client assessment.
  • Knowledge of local languages spoken in Gayaza, Mukono, or Iganga regions to enhance communication with diverse client bases.
  • Basic computer literacy for using loan management systems, email, and preparing simple reports as part of daily duties.
  • Demonstrated skills in negotiation or persuasion that can aid in client recruitment and loan agreement discussions.
  • Experience in customer service or sales roles that demonstrates ability to build relationships and meet performance targets.

What the Role Offers

  • Competitive monthly salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, paid regularly through bank transfer.
  • Transport facilitation for field work, including fuel allowances or reimbursements for client visits within the branch operational area.
  • Access to company-provided lunch during working hours or a meal allowance to support staff welfare during the workday.
  • Opportunities for professional development through on-the-job training and potential access to external workshops on credit management.
  • Eligibility for statutory benefits including NSSF contributions and annual leave in accordance with Ugandan labour laws.
