The selected candidates will operate from specific district bases, ensuring localized outreach and accountability. Each Project Officer will report directly to the Project Coordinator. The role is pivotal in bridging central programme goals with grassroots realities, ensuring that interventions in Karamoja, Bukedi, Busoga, and Northern Uganda are both effective and culturally sensitive. This is a unique opportunity for professionals committed to gender equality and community transformation.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and implement project activities at the district level in allocated areas, ensuring alignment with programme objectives and timelines.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with local government officials, community leaders, and other stakeholders to foster collaborative action.
- Support advocacy and accountability initiatives by mobilising communities and documenting human rights concerns relevant to adolescents and youth.
- Ensure timely monitoring, reporting, and documentation of project results, using established tools to capture qualitative and quantitative data.
- Facilitate training and awareness sessions for community members, focusing on SRHR, gender equality, and youth empowerment.
- Manage project resources efficiently, including budgets, materials, and logistical support for field activities.
- Liaise regularly with the central project team to provide feedback on implementation challenges and successes.
- Represent UWONET in district-level meetings and forums, promoting the network’s mission and programme impact.

- A Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Development Studies, Public Administration, or a related field from a recognised institution.
- At least two years of professional experience in project coordination, community development, or gender-related programming in Uganda.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and relevant local languages of the assigned district.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic data management tools for reporting and documentation.
- Commitment to UWONET’s values of gender equality, human rights, and collective action.
Desirable
- Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Gender Studies, Public Health, or International Development.
- Previous experience working with UNFPA, UN agencies, or other international donors in Uganda.
- Familiarity with the socio-cultural context of Karamoja, Bukedi, Busoga, or Northern Uganda regions.
- Certification in project management, monitoring and evaluation, or community-based research methods.
- Experience in advocacy, policy analysis, or youth leadership development programmes.
What the Role Offers
- Competitive monthly salary and performance-based bonuses aligned with Ugandan NGO standards.
- Comprehensive health insurance coverage for the employee and immediate family members.
- Monthly transport allowance to facilitate regular travel between district headquarters and project sites.
- Accommodation support or housing stipend for candidates assigned to remote districts such as Kaabong, Moroto, or Karenga.
- Professional development opportunities including training workshops, conferences, and mentorship from senior programme staff.
- Annual leave, sick leave, and public holiday entitlements as per Ugandan labour laws.
- Flexible working hours to accommodate community engagement and field-based activities.
- Opportunity to contribute to a high-impact national programme with international recognition.
