Job Overview

War Child Alliance is seeking nine dedicated Case Workers to strengthen child protection and gender-based violence response systems in Kampala, Uganda. This role is critical in safeguarding children affected by armed conflict and ensuring they receive the psychosocial support and protection they deserve. You will work directly with communities, caregivers, and local partners to deliver evidence-based interventions that foster children’s wellbeing and self-determination.

The position sits within a dynamic international NGO that operates across 19 countries. In Uganda, War Child focuses on building resilient communities where children are protected from harm and empowered to thrive. As a Case Worker, you will be at the frontline of this mission, bridging the gap between policy and practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct individual case assessments for children at risk of violence, exploitation, or neglect, using standardized tools to determine immediate safety and intervention needs.
• Develop and implement tailored case management plans that address child protection and gender-based violence concerns, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
• Facilitate safe referrals to specialized services such as legal aid, medical care, psychosocial support, and shelter when required.
• Maintain accurate, confidential case records and submit monthly activity reports highlighting progress, challenges, and identified gaps in service delivery.
• Provide direct psychosocial support to children and caregivers through structured sessions, building coping skills and strengthening family resilience.
• Engage with community leaders and local stakeholders to raise awareness about child rights, reporting mechanisms, and available support services.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, adjusting strategies based on feedback and observed outcomes to ensure continuous improvement.
• Adhere strictly to safeguarding protocols, ensuring all actions prioritize child safety and confidentiality in every interaction.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• A bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, Education, or a related field from a recognized institution.
• At least two years of hands-on experience in child protection, case management, or gender-based violence response within a humanitarian or development setting.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust with vulnerable children, families, and community members in both English and Luganda.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage a caseload effectively, demonstrating sound judgment and ethical decision-making under pressure.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite for data entry, report writing, and case documentation.

Desirable

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Public Health, or a related discipline, indicating advanced theoretical and practical knowledge.
• Specific training in child protection case management, GBV response, or psychosocial support (PSS) techniques.
• Experience working in conflict-affected regions or with refugee and internally displaced populations, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and adaptability.
• Fluency in additional local Ugandan languages such as Luo, Ateso, or Runyankole to enhance community engagement and outreach efforts.
• Experience using digital case management tools or data collection platforms like KoboToolbox, DHIS2, or similar humanitarian software.
