Job Overview

I&M Bank Uganda is seeking a dedicated Teller (Banking Officer) to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will be the frontline representative of the bank, building trust and fostering strong client relationships.

Operating from key branches across Uganda, the Teller is responsible for maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and security. Key Responsibilities

• Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently, including cash deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and cheque handling.
• Promote and cross-sell the bank’s diverse portfolio of products, such as savings accounts, personal loans, and credit cards.
• Guide customers on the adoption and use of digital and self-service banking channels to enhance their banking experience.
• Identify potential business opportunities and customer needs, then refer them to the appropriate relationship management teams.
• Ensure strict compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter Terrorism Financing (CTF), and Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations.
• Detect and escalate any suspicious transactions, fraud attempts, or unusual customer activities in a timely manner.
• Maintain the confidentiality of all customer information and handle inquiries with professionalism and empathy.
• Adhere to branch opening and closing procedures, ensuring the safekeeping of cash and important documents.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university, preferably in Business, Economics, or Finance.
• At least one year of relevant experience in a customer-facing role, preferably within a financial institution or retail environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse customer groups.
• Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail, ensuring error-free transaction processing.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and basic banking software applications.

Desirable

• Relevant professional certifications such as the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) are an advantage.
• Experience in foreign exchange transactions and familiarity with Bank of Uganda guidelines are highly valued.
• Prior experience in sales, business development, or cross-selling within a banking environment is a significant plus.
• Knowledge of digital banking platforms and mobile money services in the Ugandan market is desirable.
