Job Overview

This role offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the bank’s growth trajectory in Western Uganda.
The position demands excellence in people management, customer relationship building, and financial stewardship. You will be expected to develop and execute local market strategies that respond to the unique needs of Masaka’s business community and individual customers. Success in this role requires balancing short-term performance with long-term sustainable growth while upholding ABSA’s values and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement branch business plans to achieve deposit, loan, and revenue targets aligned with ABSA Uganda’s strategic objectives.
- Lead, coach, and motivate a team of relationship officers, tellers, and support staff to deliver exceptional service and meet performance goals.
- Ensure full compliance with Bank of Uganda regulations, ABSA policies, and internal controls across all branch operations and transactions.
- Drive customer acquisition and retention initiatives to grow the branch’s customer base and deepen relationships with existing clients.
- Monitor and manage credit risk, operational risk, and market risk to maintain asset quality and protect the bank’s financial interests.
- Oversee daily branch operations including cash management, security protocols, and service delivery standards to ensure efficiency and safety.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, community leaders, and key stakeholders to enhance ABSA’s market presence.
- Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and customer feedback to identify opportunities for product innovation and service improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field from a recognized university.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in retail banking with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Proven track record of achieving business targets, managing P&L responsibilities, and driving profitability in a banking environment.
- Strong knowledge of Ugandan banking regulations, financial products, and retail banking operations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
Desirable
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Professional banking certifications such as ACIB, CPA, or CFA.
- Experience working in a multinational or pan-African banking environment.
- Familiarity with digital banking platforms and financial technology innovations.
- Previous experience managing branches in regional or upcountry locations.
