Job Overview

Twyford Impex is seeking an experienced Employee Relations Supervisor to join their team in Kampala. This role is critical for maintaining positive workplace relations and ensuring compliance with Ugandan labour laws. The successful candidate will lead grievance handling, disciplinary processes, and policy implementation across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle employee grievances and disputes through fair investigation and effective resolution procedures in line with company policies.
  • Manage disciplinary processes including investigations, hearings, and documentation ensuring compliance with Ugandan labour laws.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with Ugandan labour legislation including the Employment Act, Occupational Safety and Health Act, and related regulations.
  • Develop and implement employee relations policies and procedures that promote fairness, consistency, and legal compliance.
  • Provide guidance and training to managers and supervisors on employee relations best practices and legal requirements.
  • Monitor workplace trends and employee sentiment to identify potential issues and recommend preventive measures.
  • Represent the company in labour discussions and negotiations with employee representatives or union officials when required.
  • Maintain accurate records of all employee relations cases, outcomes, and follow-up actions for reporting and audit purposes.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Law, or a closely related field from a recognised institution.
  • Minimum of 8 years progressive experience in employee relations roles with demonstrated expertise in grievance handling and dispute resolution.
  • At least 2-3 years of supervisory experience managing employee relations functions or leading HR teams.
  • Strong working knowledge of Ugandan labour laws including the Employment Act, Trade Unions Act, and Occupational Safety and Health Act.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills with proven ability to handle sensitive employee issues professionally.

Desirable

  • Professional HR certification from a recognised body such as SHRM, HRCI, or local HR professional associations.
  • Experience in the manufacturing sector, particularly with knowledge of production environment challenges and shift work dynamics.
  • Familiarity with HR information systems and case management tools for tracking employee relations matters.
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations and preparing reports for management review.
  • Knowledge of international labour standards and best practices applicable to global manufacturing operations.
