Job Overview
Twyford International Uganda is seeking a dedicated HR Specialist to join their growing team in Luwero District. This full-time position offers the opportunity to support comprehensive human resource functions within a dynamic manufacturing environment. The role is ideal for an HR professional looking to make a tangible impact on employee experience and organisational effectiveness.
As an HR Specialist, you will be instrumental in supporting end-to-end HR processes from recruitment through to employee development and compliance. You will work closely with management and staff to ensure HR practices align with both company objectives and Ugandan labour regulations. This position provides exposure to diverse HR activities in a stable, established organisation.
The successful candidate will contribute to fostering a positive workplace culture while ensuring all HR operations run smoothly and efficiently. You will be based at the company’s facility in Kapeeka, Luwero District, serving as a key resource for both employees and management on HR-related matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Support end-to-end recruitment processes including job advertising, candidate screening, interview coordination and onboarding of new employees.
- Manage employee relations matters by addressing concerns, facilitating communication and handling grievances in accordance with company policy.
- Coordinate performance review cycles, talent assessments and development planning to support workforce growth and retention.
- Plan and implement training and development programmes aimed at enhancing employee skills and organisational capability.
- Maintain accurate HR records, prepare regular reports and ensure data integrity across all personnel information systems.
- Ensure strict compliance with Ugandan labour laws and regulations in all HR practices and documentation.
- Assist with payroll processing, benefits administration and managing employee changes such as promotions, transfers and exits.
- Promote employee engagement initiatives and well-being programmes to foster a positive and productive work environment.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology or a closely related field from a recognised institution.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive HR experience gained within a medium to large organisation in Uganda or similar context.
- Strong working knowledge of Ugandan labour laws including the Employment Act, NSSF regulations and workplace safety standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to interact effectively at all organisational levels.
- Proficiency in using HRIS systems for employee data management and MS Office Suite particularly Excel and Word for reporting.
- Highly organised approach to work with proven ability to maintain confidentiality and pay close attention to detail in all tasks.
Desirable
- Professional HR certification such as SHRM-CP, PHR or equivalent qualification recognised in East Africa.
- Experience working in manufacturing, industrial or production environments with shift workforces.
- Familiarity with local languages spoken in Luwero District to enhance communication with diverse employee groups.
- Previous involvement in designing or delivering employee wellness or engagement programmes.
- Experience with unionised environments and collective bargaining processes in Uganda.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards applicable to Ugandan workplaces.
