This is a full-time position requiring strong analytical, communication, and networking skills to drive meaningful change in the agricultural sector across the region.
Key Responsibilities

- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including government ministries, civil society organizations, development partners, and private sector actors to foster collaborative advocacy.
- Coordinate regional policy dialogues, workshops, and conferences to facilitate knowledge sharing and collective action among farmer organizations and policy makers.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of advocacy interventions on policy outcomes and farmer livelihoods, producing regular reports and recommendations for strategic adjustments.
- Provide technical support and capacity building to member farmer organizations on policy engagement, advocacy planning, and evidence-based lobbying techniques.
- Manage the preparation of policy briefs, position papers, and submissions to regional and national policy forums, ensuring they reflect farmer perspectives and evidence-based findings.
- Liaise with media and communication teams to ensure effective dissemination of advocacy messages and farmer stories through various channels including press releases and social media.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Master’s degree in Public Policy, Agriculture, Development Studies, Political Science, or a related field from a recognized institution with a strong academic record.
- Minimum of five years of professional experience in policy advocacy, research, or program management within agricultural development organizations, NGOs, or government bodies in Eastern Africa.
- Proven track record of successful policy influence and advocacy campaigns, demonstrated through tangible policy changes or increased farmer participation in policy processes.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to conduct rigorous policy research, synthesize complex information, and translate findings into actionable recommendations for diverse audiences.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to draft persuasive policy documents, deliver presentations, and facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogues effectively.
Desirable
- PhD in a relevant field or additional postgraduate qualifications in advocacy, communications, or international development would be a significant advantage.
- Experience working with regional economic communities such as the EAC, IGAD, or COMESA, or with international organizations like FAO, IFAD, or the World Bank on agricultural policy programs.
- Fluency in Kiswahili or other regional languages (e.g., Kinyarwanda, Luganda, Amharic) to enhance community engagement and cross-cultural communication within the Eastern Africa region.
- Familiarity with digital advocacy tools, social media platforms, and data visualization software for effective policy messaging and monitoring of online discourse on agricultural issues.
- Publication record in peer-reviewed journals or policy briefs on agricultural policy, rural development, or farmer organization strengthening in the African context.
What the Role Offers
- Competitive salary package with regular performance-based bonuses and annual increments reflecting experience and contribution to organizational goals.
- Comprehensive health insurance coverage including medical, dental, and vision benefits for the employee and immediate family members, ensuring well-being and peace of mind.
- Transport allowance and company vehicle for regional travel to support field visits, stakeholder meetings, and advocacy events across Eastern Africa.
- Professional development opportunities including funded training courses, conferences, and workshops to enhance skills in policy advocacy, research methodologies, and leadership.
