Movit Products

Job Overview

Movit Products is seeking a reliable Driver to join its logistics team in Uganda. The role involves transporting goods safely and efficiently between warehouses, distributors, and retail outlets, ensuring timely delivery while maintaining high standards of vehicle care and road safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate company vehicles safely to transport goods between warehouses, distributors, and customer sites across Uganda, ensuring deliveries arrive intact and on schedule.
  • Perform daily vehicle inspections, checking tyre pressure, oil levels, brakes, lights, and coolant to confirm roadworthiness before each journey and report any defects immediately.
  • Load and unload cargo using appropriate equipment such as pallet jacks, securing items with straps to prevent shifting or damage during transit.
  • Follow all traffic laws and company safety policies, maintain a clean driving record, and observe speed limits and load restrictions for driver safety.
  • Maintain accurate logbooks recording mileage, fuel consumption, departure and arrival times, and any incidents, submitting these reports to the transport supervisor each week.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers and warehouse coordinators to confirm pickup and drop-off schedules, report delays, and receive updated instructions for route changes or urgent deliveries.
  • Assist with basic vehicle maintenance tasks including cleaning the interior and exterior, refuelling, checking tyre tread, and arranging for scheduled servicing when needed.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies regarding cargo handling, documentation, and customer service, reporting any safety concerns or procedural issues to the supervisor promptly.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Hold a valid Ugandan driver’s licence for code C1 or higher, with at least two years of professional driving experience in goods transport.
  • Possess a clean driving record with no major accidents, serious traffic violations, or penalty points in the last three years, demonstrating responsible road behaviour.
  • Demonstrate good knowledge of Kampala city and surrounding districts, including major highways, alternative routes, and common traffic patterns to optimise travel time.
  • Be physically fit to load and unload cargo, capable of lifting items up to 25 kilograms, and able to endure long driving hours.
  • Show strong time-management skills, ensuring that deliveries are completed within scheduled windows, and proactively communicate any anticipated delays to supervisors.
  • Have basic literacy and numeracy skills to complete logbooks, delivery notes, and simple paperwork accurately, and to follow written instructions without difficulty.

Desirable

  • Previous experience delivering fast-moving consumer goods or similar products is advantageous, as it ensures familiarity with handling procedures and delivery schedules.
  • Familiarity with GPS navigation systems and route-planning software helps improve efficiency, reduce fuel consumption, and ensure timely arrivals at destinations.
  • Ability to perform minor mechanical checks, such as examining tyre tread, checking fluid levels, and testing lights, without requiring supervision or workshop assistance.
  • Good interpersonal skills for interacting with warehouse staff, customers, and law-enforcement officers when needed, fostering cooperation and smooth operations.
  • Completion of a defensive driving course or similar safety training is a plus, indicating a commitment to road safety and risk reduction.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional night shifts, weekend duties, and public holidays as required, ensuring coverage for urgent delivery needs.

What the Role Offers

  • Competitive monthly salary aligned with industry standards for drivers in Uganda, reviewed annually and adjusted for inflation and performance.
  • Regular vehicle maintenance and fuel costs are fully covered by the company, eliminating personal expenses for servicing, refuelling, and tyre replacements.
  • Opportunities for overtime pay and performance-based bonuses based on delivery reliability, safety records, customer feedback, and adherence to schedules.
  • Company-provided uniform and basic protective equipment, including safety boots, reflective vests, and gloves, to ensure safety on the road and during loading operations.
  • Stable employment with prospects for career growth into senior driver, transport supervisor, or logistics coordinator roles, supported by internal training programmes.
