Job Overview

MTN Uganda is recruiting a dedicated Van Driver to support operations in the Eastern Region. This role involves transporting staff, equipment, and materials safely and efficiently during field activities and customer engagements. The successful candidate will uphold MTN’s commitment to safety, reliability, and professional service delivery.

As a key member of the regional team, the Van Driver will ensure timely and secure movement of assets while adhering to traffic regulations and company policies. The position requires flexibility, attention to detail, and a strong sense of responsibility. This is a full-time opportunity based in Uganda’s Eastern Region.

The role supports MTN’s broader mission of connecting communities through reliable telecommunications services. By ensuring smooth logistical operations, the Van Driver contributes directly to the success of regional activations and field visits. Candidates should be prepared for varied schedules and extensive travel within the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport MTN Uganda employees, authorized passengers, equipment, and materials while complying with all traffic laws and company policies.
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections to ensure the van is clean, roadworthy, and free of mechanical issues before each trip.
  • Maintain accurate records of fuel consumption, mileage, service history, and vehicle usage in logbooks as required by company procedure.
  • Provide operational support during MTN activations, customer engagements, field visits, and events, including responding to urgent or emergency assignments.
  • Report any mechanical faults, accidents, or safety concerns immediately to the supervisor or designated maintenance team.
  • Uphold MTN’s brand image by demonstrating courteous, professional conduct toward passengers and members of the public at all times.
  • Ensure the security of company assets including equipment, documents, and other assigned items during transit and when the vehicle is parked.
  • Adhere to all Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) requirements and participate in relevant training as directed by management.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of UACE or equivalent educational qualification as proof of basic academic attainment.
  • Valid and current driving licence appropriate for passenger vans or minibuses carrying multiple passengers.
  • At least three years of professional driving experience in a similar role involving passenger or goods transport.
  • Proven experience driving vehicles designed to carry 15 or more passengers with a consistently clean driving record.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of defensive driving techniques, road safety principles, and accident prevention strategies.
  • Good familiarity with roads, towns, trading centres, districts, and rural routes across Uganda’s Eastern Region.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in a corporate or telecommunications environment understanding business transport needs.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge to identify minor vehicle issues and communicate them effectively to maintenance teams.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and public holidays when required by operational demands.
  • Strong communication skills in English and at least one local language commonly spoken in the Eastern Region.
  • Certification in advanced driving, first aid, or HSSE compliance would be an added advantage.
