Job Overview
Don Swift Company, a leading manufacturer of personal care and fragrance products in Uganda, is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Head of Marketing and Sales to lead its commercial strategy. This role is pivotal in driving brand visibility, expanding distribution, and achieving ambitious revenue targets across Uganda and neighboring markets.
The successful candidate will oversee both sales and marketing functions, ensuring alignment between brand building and revenue generation. You will lead a high-performing team, manage key accounts, and spearhead product launches in a competitive FMCG landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement annual sales and marketing plans to achieve profitability and growth targets.
- Set monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets for teams, regions, and distributors across Uganda.
- Lead, recruit, train, and motivate a high-performing sales team to exceed performance goals.
- Oversee pricing strategies, discounts, credit control, and margin management to ensure profitability.
- Expand the distribution network by onboarding wholesalers, supermarkets, retail shops, and regional distributors.
- Open new territories and markets for Ivory brand products across Uganda and East Africa.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key accounts and strategic customers for long-term partnerships.
- Ensure product availability and visibility in all target outlets through effective merchandising and stock management.
- Build and manage the Ivory brand portfolio to compete effectively against established competitors.
- Plan and execute integrated marketing campaigns, promotions, trade activations, roadshows, and product launches.
- Manage branding, advertising across radio, TV, social media, and billboards to maximize reach.
- Drive consumer awareness and brand loyalty through targeted engagement and customer experience initiatives.
- Conduct continuous market research on competitors, pricing, consumer trends, and customer preferences.
- Provide feedback to production and operations teams on product quality, fragrances, packaging, and sizes.
- Advise senior management on new product opportunities and market gaps for expansion.
- Prepare accurate sales forecasts, budgets, and manage the sales and marketing budget efficiently.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly sales reports, market feedback summaries, and competitor analysis.
- Monitor sales team performance and enforce accountability through KPIs and performance reviews.
- Develop and maintain a customer database to support follow-up routines and retention strategies.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Professional qualification in marketing such as CIM, Chartered Institute of Marketing, or equivalent certification.
- Minimum 4 to 5 years of experience in sales and marketing within a manufacturing environment, preferably in cosmetics or FMCG.
- Proven track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets, with evidence of growing a brand from scratch or significantly increasing market share.
- Experience in both traditional trade (dukas, wholesale, supermarkets) and modern trade channels is essential.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, and people management skills with the ability to inspire and train teams.
Desirable
- MBA or postgraduate degree in Marketing or Business Management.
- Direct experience with Ivory brand or similar FMCG cosmetic brands in East Africa.
- Familiarity with import/export regulations and regional distribution logistics in Uganda and neighboring countries.
- Proficiency in CRM software, data analytics tools, and digital marketing platforms.
- Exposure to digital advertising, influencer marketing, and e-commerce channel development.
