Job Overview
RKA & Company is seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join our finance team in Uganda. This full-time position is critical for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring smooth daily accounting operations across all departments.
The successful candidate will report directly to the Finance Manager and will play a pivotal role in supporting routine financial tasks, inventory control, and supplier management. We are looking for someone who thrives in a structured environment and values precision.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage petty cash transactions, maintain the cash float, and prepare weekly reconciliation statements for supervisor review.
- Ensure all financial documents are properly filed, scanned, and organized for easy retrieval during audits or internal checks.
- Perform accurate daily data entry into the accounting system to update ledgers, journals, and supplier accounts promptly.
- Assist in conducting monthly stock takes by counting physical inventory and comparing results against system records.
- Support fuel supervision by tracking usage logs, verifying refueling records, and reporting discrepancies to management.
- Reconcile supplier accounts monthly by matching invoices, payments, and purchase orders to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Collaborate with department heads to gather expense reports, verify receipts, and process reimbursement requests efficiently.
- Adhere strictly to internal financial controls, ensuring all transactions are authorized, documented, and compliant with company policy.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline from a recognized institution.
- Have a minimum of two years of hands-on experience in an accounts assistant or junior accounting role within a corporate or SME environment.
- Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and financial modeling for data analysis and reporting.
- Exhibit strong numerical accuracy, analytical thinking, and the ability to work under pressure while meeting tight deadlines.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, suppliers, and auditors, fostering collaborative working relationships.
- Display high personal integrity, discretion with sensitive financial information, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Desirable
- Hold or be progressing toward a professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CPA, or ICPAR, with at least five papers completed.
- Have prior experience using inventory management software or ERP systems like QuickBooks, Sage, or Microsoft Dynamics.
- Possess a valid driving license and willingness to travel occasionally for site visits or supplier meetings across Uganda.
- Have completed a recognized internship or training program in financial auditing, tax preparation, or corporate accounting.
