Job Overview
BrighterMonday Consulting is seeking a dedicated Credit Control Officer to join our dynamic team in Uganda. This pivotal role ensures the timely collection of outstanding debts and effective monitoring of customer accounts. You will play a key part in maintaining healthy cash flow and minimizing bad debt exposure for our growing client base. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing credit risks, following up on overdue accounts, and resolving payment issues. By maintaining accurate debt records and providing insightful reports, you will support informed financial decision-making across the organization. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement effective credit control strategies to ensure timely debt recovery across all client accounts.
- Conduct thorough credit risk assessments for new and existing clients to establish appropriate credit limits and terms.
- Follow up systematically on overdue accounts through phone calls, emails, and formal notices to resolve payment delays.
- Resolve billing disputes and payment issues by communicating professionally with clients and internal departments.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all debt transactions in the company’s financial management system.
- Prepare comprehensive credit control reports and dashboards that highlight key metrics and trends for management review.
- Collaborate with the sales and finance teams to align credit policies with business objectives and market conditions.
- Monitor customer payment patterns and identify potential bad debt risks to take proactive mitigation measures.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in credit control, debt collection, or accounts receivable management.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data analysis and financial reporting.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to negotiate effectively with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Proven track record of reducing bad debt percentages and improving cash flow performance metrics.
- Knowledge of Ugandan financial regulations, credit laws, and industry best practices in debt management.
Desirable
- Professional certification in credit management, financial analysis, or a related field would be an advantage.
- Experience working with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar enterprise systems.
- Background in consulting firms or service-based industries where credit control is critical to operations.
- Fluency in additional local languages such as Luganda to enhance client communication in Uganda.
- Demonstrated ability to handle high-pressure situations while maintaining professional composure.
