Job Overview

German Doctors is seeking a dynamic and experienced Country Representative based in Kampala, Uganda. This role serves as the primary link between the organisation’s headquarters in Bonn, Germany, and its local partner institutions across the country. The successful candidate will be instrumental in fostering collaboration, ensuring the effective implementation of health initiatives, and identifying new opportunities for strategic expansion. This position is critical for maintaining the quality and impact of German Doctors’ humanitarian and medical programmes in Uganda. The role demands a professional who can navigate complex stakeholder relationships, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and uphold the highest standards of operational and financial integrity. You will be at the forefront of representing the organisation’s mission and values to a diverse audience including government bodies, international donors, and local community partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary liaison between German Doctors headquarters and Ugandan partner organisations to ensure seamless communication and coordination.
  • Coordinate regular meetings with project teams and support visits by headquarters staff and donors to maintain transparency and alignment.
  • Represent German Doctors and build strong relationships with partners, government institutions, NGOs and donors to foster collaborative environments.
  • Support existing projects and develop strategic proposals for new initiatives to expand the organisation’s footprint in Uganda.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, child protection, anti-corruption and gender equality standards across all operations.
  • Conduct needs assessments and identify suitable partners for new projects to ensure sustainable programme expansion.
  • Oversee project implementation, financial management and donor compliance to guarantee accountability and efficiency.
  • Develop monitoring and evaluation systems to track project performance and report on key outcomes effectively.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • A bachelor’s degree in public health, development studies, international relations, business administration or a related field from a recognised institution.
  • At least five years of progressive experience in project management, coordination or representation within an NGO or international development organisation in Uganda.
  • Proven track record of building and maintaining strong relationships with diverse stakeholders including government officials, donors and local partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to prepare professional reports and deliver presentations confidently.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

Desirable

  • A master’s degree in a relevant field such as public health, international development or management would be a significant advantage.
  • Previous experience working with German Doctors or a similar international NGO based in Uganda is highly valued.
  • Fluency in German or another local Ugandan language such as Luganda would enhance your effectiveness in stakeholder engagement.
  • Familiarity with donor requirements and compliance frameworks for organisations receiving funding from European entities.
