Job Overview
BrighterMonday Consulting is seeking a dedicated IT Assistant to join their team in Uganda. This role is crucial for maintaining the integrity and efficiency of the company’s technology infrastructure. The IT Assistant will work closely with the IT Manager to ensure all systems operate smoothly and securely, supporting both internal staff and external clients. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work and thrives in a dynamic environment where technology plays a central role in business operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing first-line technical support, diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues, and maintaining network stability. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and excellent communication skills to interact with staff across various departments. The IT Assistant will also contribute to the ongoing improvement of IT services, ensuring that the technology infrastructure supports the company’s growth and strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first-line technical support to staff across all departments, addressing hardware, software, and network issues promptly and effectively.
- Diagnose and resolve common IT problems, including printer malfunctions, connectivity issues, and software installation requests.
- Maintain and update company software systems, ensuring all applications are current and functioning optimally for daily operations.
- Monitor network performance and security protocols, implementing measures to prevent unauthorized access and data breaches.
- Assist in the setup and configuration of new workstations, ensuring they are properly integrated into the existing IT infrastructure.
- Document IT procedures and maintain accurate records of support requests, resolutions, and system changes for future reference and compliance.
- Collaborate with external vendors and service providers to coordinate repairs, upgrades, and maintenance of critical IT equipment.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry best practices, recommending improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in IT support or a similar role within a corporate environment.
- Strong proficiency in Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office suite, and common business applications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose technical issues independently and implement effective solutions.
- Effective communication skills to interact with staff at all levels and explain technical concepts in clear, non-technical language.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively to meet deadlines and support urgent requests.
Desirable
- Relevant IT certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator.
- Experience working in a consulting firm or fast-paced business environment, preferably within the Ugandan market.
- Familiarity with cloud-based solutions and remote support tools to enhance service delivery across multiple locations.
- Knowledge of basic networking principles, including TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP configuration and troubleshooting.
- Previous experience managing user accounts, permissions, and access controls within an active directory environment.
