Job Overview
Avanti Energy is seeking qualified Site Technicians to support upstream oil and gas operations in Kampala. This role is critical for ensuring the smooth functioning of instrumentation and mechanical systems at active drilling sites. You will work under standard supervision to maintain, troubleshoot, and install equipment essential for safe and efficient operations. As a Site Technician, you will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to delivering reliable technical services in Uganda’s growing oil and gas sector. Avanti Energy Services Limited is a Ugandan national company partnering with major international service providers to source and employ over 100 local engineers, technicians, operators, and laborers. Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment to minimize downtime and ensure safety.
- Troubleshoot complex system malfunctions using technical drawings, manuals, and schematics to identify root causes quickly and effectively.
- Install, commission, and calibrate Roxar products and other petroleum measurement devices according to industry standards and manufacturer specifications.
- Support well test applications and petroleum engineering operations by ensuring all instrumentation functions accurately under field conditions.
- Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and calibration results in detailed logs for compliance and audit purposes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate equipment servicing schedules and respond promptly to emergency repairs on-site.
- Adhere strictly to HSE protocols and safety standards, including NEBOSH or IOSH guidelines, to maintain a secure working environment for all personnel.
- Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to junior technicians, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.
- 2-4 years of relevant hands-on experience in specialized Oil & Gas instrumentation or equivalent technical roles within the energy sector.
- Strong application knowledge of Roxar products, petroleum measurement standards, and well test applications in upstream environments.
- Proven ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals with precision and attention to detail.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with a systematic approach to diagnosing and resolving complex mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation issues.
- Willingness to work in field conditions, including shift rotations, outdoor environments, and remote site locations across Uganda.
Desirable
- Professional certifications in Instrumentation & Control Engineering from accredited training providers or OEM product-specific courses.
- Active HSE certifications such as NEBOSH or IOSH demonstrating commitment to workplace safety and environmental protection standards.
- Prior experience working with major oil and gas service companies or on international drilling projects in East Africa.
- Additional training in petroleum engineering fundamentals, SCADA systems, or digital oilfield technologies that enhance operational efficiency.
- Leadership experience managing small technical teams or leading maintenance campaigns during peak production periods.
- Fluency in Swahili or local Ugandan languages to facilitate effective communication with field crews and community stakeholders.
