Tulima Solar
Job Overview
Tulima Solar provides solar-powered irrigation solutions across Uganda, aiming to boost agricultural productivity with affordable, reliable technology that helps smallholder farmers increase yields and lower reliance on unpredictable rainfall.
As a field‑based Sales Officer, you will engage directly with farmers, agro‑dealers, and community groups to demonstrate solar pump benefits, assess needs, and present tailored solutions.
You will also gather market intelligence, track competitor activity, and report insights to guide product development and promotional strategies.
You will collaborate with Customer Care, Field Service, and Marketing teams to ensure seamless service delivery, collect feedback, and contribute to continuous improvement. This role offers clear career progression, performance‑based incentives, and the chance to support Uganda’s renewable energy transition.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and develop strong customer relationships through regular face‑to‑face meetings, phone calls, and farm visits, ensuring satisfaction, repeat business, and valuable referrals.
- Gather market intelligence and customer feedback on pricing, delivery preferences, and product specifications to support negotiations, inform management decisions, and adjust sales strategies accordingly.
- Assist management in planning product launches, promotions, and special offers by providing field insights, coordinating with marketing teams, and ensuring timely execution of campaigns.
- Achieve and exceed weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets by entering leads into the sales app, conducting farm surveys, and following up on quotations.
- Record sales orders and cash disbursements accurately, ensuring timely reporting to sales and compliance with the no‑cash payment policy unless approved.
- Provide accurate feedback on future buying trends, customer preferences, and emerging market needs to the sales department to improve forecasting, inventory planning, and product development.
- Follow procedures for signing out and returning stock from inventory, assuming full responsibility for any items removed, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring proper stock reconciliation.
- Train customers on equipment usage, warranty terms, repayment plans, and mobile money payment processes, ensuring they understand operation, maintenance, and how to troubleshoot basic issues.
- Collaborate with Customer Care and Field Service teams to schedule installations, address after‑sales concerns, and ensure customers receive timely support and effective problem resolution.
- Prepare weekly activity reports, forecast sales pipelines, and update customer databases in the CRM system to enable accurate performance tracking and informed decision‑making by management.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Diploma or certificate in Sales, Marketing, Agriculture, or a related field, with ability to understand technical products and communicate benefits clearly.
- Minimum of two years field‑based sales experience, preferably selling agricultural equipment, irrigation systems, or renewable energy products to rural and peri‑urban customers.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, capable of building trust with farmers, agro‑dealers, and community leaders to drive sales conversions and foster long‑term partnerships.
- Proficiency in using smartphones and sales applications for lead entry, order processing, mobile money transactions, and basic data management with high accuracy.
- Valid Ugandan driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively across districts, often working outdoors in varying weather conditions while maintaining punctuality and professionalism.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating self‑motivation, resilience, and a results‑oriented mindset to achieve sales targets consistently.
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills, including the ability to prepare simple sales reports, process invoices, and maintain accurate records of field activities and customer interactions.
Desirable
- Experience with solar pump technology or knowledge of renewable energy incentives, financing options, and government programs available to Ugandan farmers for adopting clean energy solutions.
- Familiarity with CRM software or sales tracking tools that help monitor performance, forecast demand, generate activity reports, and analyze customer behavior for improved sales planning.
- Ability to conduct basic technical demonstrations and troubleshoot minor issues, enhancing customer confidence in product reliability and reducing after‑sales service calls.
- Previous involvement in agricultural extension programs, cooperative initiatives, or farmer training projects, showing commitment to community development and farmer empowerment.
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills, capable of delivering engaging product demonstrations at trade shows, community meetings, and farmer field days to attract potential buyers.
- Fluency in English and at least one local language spoken in the target sales regions, enabling effective communication and relationship building with diverse customer groups.
What the Role Offers
- Competitive monthly salary plus performance‑based commissions that reward exceeding sales targets, consistent field performance, successful customer acquisition and retention, and quarterly bonuses.
- Company‑provided mobile phone with data allowance, transportation stipend, and fuel support to facilitate daily field visits, customer engagement, and timely attendance at meetings across regions.
- Ongoing training sessions on product knowledge, sales techniques, customer service, and renewable energy trends, supported by mentorship from senior sales managers and technical experts.
- Health insurance coverage, paid leave entitlements, access to a pension scheme, and wellness programs that promote physical and mental well‑being for long‑term employee security.
- Clear career progression path with opportunities to advance to senior sales roles, team leadership positions, or specialized functions within the commercial and marketing departments.
- Performance recognition programs, including employee of the month awards, bonuses for outstanding achievements, and invitations to annual company retreats and industry conferences.
