Job Overview
ZTE Uganda is seeking a dedicated Transmission Engineer to join its dynamic telecommunications team in Kampala. This role is critical for maintaining and expanding the backbone infrastructure that powers modern communication across Uganda and beyond. The successful candidate will ensure seamless data flow through advanced microwave, fiber optic, and IP-based transmission systems.
As a key technical member of the network operations division, you will work on high-impact projects that directly influence service reliability and customer satisfaction. Key Responsibilities
- Design and plan comprehensive transmission network solutions tailored to Uganda’s terrain and infrastructure requirements.
- Install, configure, and commission advanced transmission equipment including microwave radios, SDH, DWDM, and IP/MPLS systems.
- Monitor network performance metrics and ensure maximum uptime through proactive management and optimization.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex transmission network faults with minimal service disruption.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on all transmission equipment according to scheduled calendars.
- Conduct network upgrades, expansions, and optimization activities to improve capacity and efficiency.
- Coordinate with field installation teams and external vendors during major deployment projects.
- Analyze network performance reports and recommend strategic improvements for better service delivery.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 2 years hands-on experience in transmission network planning, implementation, and ongoing maintenance activities.
- Proven technical expertise in microwave transmission systems, fiber optic technologies, and SDH/SONET networks.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues independently.
Desirable
- Professional certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent vendor-specific credentials in transmission technologies.
- Experience working with DWDM, OTN, and SRV6 transmission systems in multi-vendor environments.
- Familiarity with Ugandan telecommunications regulations and industry standards preferred.
- Previous experience working with ZTE equipment or similar global telecom vendors is a significant advantage.
