Job Overview
NIC Life Assurance Company Limited, a subsidiary of NIC Holdings Limited, is seeking a dynamic Unit Manager to lead and grow a team of insurance agents at its Head Office in Uganda. The role focuses on driving sales, productivity, and persistency through effective leadership.
The Unit Manager will recruit, train, and motivate a minimum of 15 active agents, set sales strategies, monitor performance, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Success is measured by agent retention, premium production, and policy persistency targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit, train, and motivate a minimum of 15 active insurance agents through targeted outreach programs and incentive schemes to achieve unit sales, productivity, and persistency targets.
- Conduct regular field supervision, hold weekly team meetings, and lead daily huddles to monitor agent activities, track progress, and provide immediate feedback for performance improvement.
- Identify individual training needs via performance reviews and skill assessments, then arrange relevant coaching, workshops, and product training to enhance agent capabilities and boost productivity.
- Prepare and submit weekly progress reports detailing sales volumes, policy persistency, agent activity levels, and variance analysis to the Chief Operations & Business Development Officer.
- Develop and implement data-driven sales strategies that align with company objectives, market trends, customer needs, and competitive positioning to drive sustainable business growth and profitability.
- Ensure full compliance with Insurance Regulatory Authority guidelines, company policies, and the Code of Ethics through regular audits, agent training, and corrective action plans consistently.
- Maintain high policy persistency by monitoring renewal dates, addressing client concerns promptly, implementing retention initiatives, and improving customer satisfaction to reduce lapse rates and increase.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the Chief Operations & Business Development Officer, including special projects, process improvements, cross-departmental collaboration, and ad-hoc tasks as required.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, finance, or a related field from a recognised university with strong academic performance and demonstrated analytical skills.
- Possess a valid insurance agent license issued by the Insurance Regulatory Authority or be willing to obtain it within the first three months of employment.
- Have at least two years of proven experience in insurance sales, agent recruitment, or team leadership within Uganda’s financial services sector and meet sales targets.
- Demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal, and coaching skills with the ability to motivate diverse teams, resolve conflicts effectively, and maintain high ethical standards while upholding values.
- Show proficiency in using MS Office applications, CRM systems, and data analysis tools to prepare reports, monitor performance metrics, and support data-driven decision making daily.
- Exhibit high integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to upholding the company’s Code of Ethics and regulatory requirements at all times while fostering trust among colleagues.
Desirable
- Previous experience as an insurance unit manager or sales supervisor in a life insurance company is highly advantageous and demonstrates proven leadership results for team.
- Completion of the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) or equivalent professional insurance qualification, or ongoing pursuit of advanced insurance studies to enhance technical expertise and growth.
- Familiarity with Ugandan insurance market products, underwriting guidelines, and claims processes to better support agent selling activities and improve customer retention while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Strong analytical abilities to interpret sales data, identify trends, and make informed decisions for strategy adjustments that drive improved unit performance and profitability consistently today.
- Experience in conducting training workshops, developing training materials, and mentoring junior agents for career progression and improving overall team productivity while maintaining high quality standards.
- Willingness to travel frequently within Uganda for field visits, agent recruitment drives, market expansion initiatives, and to support business growth objectives and achieve sustainable success.
