Located next to Georgina Eye Clinic in Mulago along Kira Road, DSTRKT24 serves a steady stream of patrons requiring efficient and hygienic food preparation. Successful candidates will contribute to maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation and kitchen organization while working flexible shifts including weekends and holidays.

The establishment values teamwork, positive attitude and attention to detail in all aspects of food handling and presentation. This role provides valuable experience in Ugandan hospitality operations with potential for skill development and career progression within the food service industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare ingredients and assist in cooking meals according to standardized recipes and portion control guidelines to ensure consistent quality and taste.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen work areas, equipment and utensils following food safety regulations and hygiene best practices.
  • Support senior chefs in food preparation tasks including chopping, mixing, plating and garnishing dishes for timely service during peak hours.
  • Monitor food storage conditions and rotate stock properly to minimize waste and ensure all ingredients remain fresh and safe for consumption.
  • Assist in receiving deliveries, verifying quantities and storing supplies appropriately in designated areas to maintain organized inventory systems.
  • Follow all safety protocols when operating kitchen equipment including knives, stoves, ovens and food processors to prevent workplace accidents.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate workflow and address any issues that may impact service delivery or food quality.
  • Adhere to dress code and personal grooming standards including clean uniforms, hair restraints and proper handwashing before food handling.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in food preparation or kitchen support roles demonstrating ability to follow recipes and maintain quality standards consistently.
  • Good communication skills enabling clear interaction with team members and supervisors during busy service periods and shift handovers.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required by the hospitality industry demands.
  • Strong teamwork orientation and positive attitude contributing to a cooperative work environment where colleagues support each other.
  • Attention to detail in food presentation ensuring plates are arranged attractively and meet establishment standards for visual appeal.
  • Good personal hygiene practices including regular handwashing, clean attire and adherence to food safety protocols at all times.

Desirable

  • Formal culinary training or certification from a recognized institution providing foundational knowledge of cooking techniques and food safety.
  • Experience working in high-volume restaurants or catering operations where speed and efficiency are essential for customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of Ugandan cuisine and local food preferences enabling better adaptation to menu requirements and customer expectations.
  • Basic understanding of cost control principles including portion management and waste reduction strategies in food service operations.
  • Ability to train and mentor new kitchen staff members sharing knowledge and best practices to improve team performance.
