Job Overview

The Food & Beverage Supervisor plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of all dining outlets within the establishment, overseeing service quality, staff performance, and guest satisfaction while contributing to the hotel’s reputation for excellence and maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Reporting to the Hotel Operations Manager, this position requires strong leadership, operational expertise, and a passion for hospitality to drive sales, maintain high standards of food safety, achieve departmental profitability targets, and collaborate effectively with kitchen and front-office teams to ensure seamless service and satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily restaurant, bar, room service, and banquet operations to ensure smooth functioning, adherence to brand standards, and seamless guest experiences throughout each shift.
  • Ensure all outlets are clean, organized, and ready before opening by conducting thorough inspections, coordinating with housekeeping, and promptly addressing any maintenance or sanitation concerns.
  • Coordinate with the kitchen to guarantee timely preparation and delivery of food, minimizing wait times, maintaining consistent quality, and ensuring order execution for all guests.
  • Supervise waiters, bartenders, cashiers, and stewards during shifts, providing continuous guidance, monitoring performance metrics, and addressing issues promptly to maintain service excellence.
  • Conduct daily staff briefings before service, communicating menu updates, special promotions, service standards, and safety procedures to align team efforts and enhance readiness.
  • Train new employees on hotel service standards, SOPs, customer interaction techniques, and upselling strategies, ensuring they understand expectations and deliver excellent guest experiences.
  • Welcome and interact with guests to ensure satisfaction, promptly resolving complaints, escalating complex issues to management, and following up to confirm resolution and guest delight.
  • Monitor sales performance, analyze daily reports, identify trends, and implement strategies to achieve departmental revenue and profitability targets set by senior management.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Hold a diploma in Hospitality Management, Food and Beverage Operations, Tourism, or a closely related field from a recognized and accredited institution and apply knowledge.
  • Possess at least three years of progressive experience supervising food and beverage outlets in hotels, restaurants, or similar hospitality environments, demonstrating leadership ability.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of food safety regulations, hygiene standards, HACCP principles, and best practices applicable to Ugandan hospitality establishments and local health codes.
  • Exhibit proven ability to lead, train, motivate, and manage diverse teams of service staff to achieve high performance levels and service excellence while fostering teamwork.
  • Show excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with a proven track record of resolving guest complaints, enhancing satisfaction, and fostering loyalty and encouraging repeat business.
  • Maintain fluency in English, both written and spoken, to effectively communicate with guests, colleagues, management, and external stakeholders as required and uphold professional standards.

Desirable

  • Have prior experience working in a luxury hotel or international chain, understanding high-end service expectations and refined guest relations protocols and cultural sensitivity.
  • Hold additional certifications in food safety, such as HACCP, ISO 22000, or ISO 9001, demonstrating commitment to quality and continuous improvement and regulatory compliance.
  • Possess basic knowledge of cost control, inventory management, and budgeting techniques to support profitability goals and reduce waste effectively and improve margins.
  • Show familiarity with point-of-sale systems and hospitality software used for reservations, billing, reporting, and inventory tracking and staff scheduling.
  • Demonstrate ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by operational needs and business demands while maintaining balance.
  • Have experience training and mentoring junior staff, contributing to a positive work environment, team cohesion, and reduced turnover rates and higher morale.
