Job Overview
Twyford International Uganda is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to support its transport and logistics operations. This role focuses on verifying carrier invoices, processing payments, and ensuring accurate financial recording within the ERP system. The position plays a key role in maintaining cost control and compliance across supply chain activities.
Working closely with transport, warehouse, and finance teams, the specialist will help prepare transport cost reports, manage accruals, and support audit readiness. The role requires strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of freight invoicing and tax regulations in Uganda.
This is a full-time opportunity based in Uganda for professionals with 4-6 years of accounting experience, including at least two years in vendor reconciliation or logistics accounting. The ideal candidate will be proactive, organized, and capable of handling complex financial data with precision.
Key Responsibilities
- Verify and reconcile carrier invoices against delivery records, trip logs, and signed contracts to ensure billing accuracy.
- Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies by communicating with transporters, warehouse staff, and finance colleagues.
- Process payments and record all transport-related expenses accurately and timely in the ERP system.
- Prepare monthly transport cost reports, accruals, and variance analysis for management review.
- Liaise with transport, warehouse, and finance teams to ensure alignment on cost tracking and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with Ugandan tax regulations, including VAT and WHT, on all transport transactions.
- Maintain well-organized financial records and documentation to support internal and external audits.
- Monitor freight invoicing trends and identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and schedules related to logistics operations.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 4-6 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in vendor reconciliation or logistics accounting.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and advanced formulas for data analysis.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms used in financial operations.
- Working knowledge of transport operations and freight invoicing processes, including waybills and delivery notes.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both spoken and written, for clear interaction with teams and vendors.
- High level of accuracy, analytical thinking, and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks under deadlines.
Desirable
- Prior experience working in Uganda or other East African countries, familiar with local business practices.
- Understanding of IFRS or local GAAP as applied to transport and logistics cost accounting.
- Experience in preparing audit schedules and supporting documentation for external auditors.
- Knowledge of customs procedures and import-related costs relevant to international freight.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new software systems and digital tools used in financial management.
- Exposure to cost allocation methods and activity-based costing in a logistics environment.
