Job Overview
Twyford International Uganda is seeking an experienced Commercial Supervisor to lead government and stakeholder relations efforts. This role is critical for ensuring smooth operations through effective engagement with regulatory bodies, industrial park authorities, and local communities. The successful candidate will navigate complex regulatory landscapes while building strong partnerships that support business growth.
Based in Uganda, this position requires frequent travel to various project sites and government offices. The Commercial Supervisor will serve as the primary liaison between the company and external stakeholders, ensuring all necessary permits and approvals are obtained in a timely manner. This is a strategic role that directly impacts the company’s ability to operate and expand within the Ugandan market.
The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record in government relations, public affairs, or commercial liaison roles. They will possess strong networking capabilities within government circles and demonstrate the ability to resolve operational challenges through diplomatic engagement. Key Responsibilities
- Manage government relations and regulatory affairs by maintaining active communication with relevant ministries and agencies to ensure compliance with all operational requirements.
- Facilitate the acquisition of permits, licences and operational approvals through systematic application processes and follow-up with authorities.
- Engage stakeholders including industrial park management, local government officials and community leaders to build trust and address concerns proactively.
- Monitor changes in regulations and policies that could affect business operations, providing timely advice to management on potential impacts and required actions.
- Resolve operational and regulatory challenges by identifying root causes and developing practical solutions through negotiation and mediation.
- Represent the company in meetings, negotiations and official forums, presenting the organization’s position clearly and professionally.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and briefing materials for senior management detailing stakeholder interactions, regulatory developments and recommended actions.
- Drive results by continuously improving the business environment through proactive relationship building and issue resolution.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business Administration, Public Administration, Law, International Relations or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 6-10 years of progressive experience in government relations, public affairs, commercial liaison or similar roles involving stakeholder engagement.
- Proven experience working within or alongside industrial parks or industrial zones, understanding their unique operational and regulatory frameworks.
- Demonstrated strong network and relationships with key government officials, regulators and community leaders across different regions of Uganda.
- Fluency in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills; knowledge of local languages such as Luganda or Swahili is considered advantageous.
- Valid driving permit and willingness to travel frequently to various project sites, government offices and stakeholder locations throughout Uganda.
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification in Public Policy, International Development or Business Law would strengthen the candidate’s analytical and strategic capabilities.
- Experience working with multinational companies in Uganda or East Africa, particularly in manufacturing, construction or infrastructure sectors.
- Familiarity with Ugandan land acquisition processes, environmental impact assessment procedures and local government administrative structures.
- Previous involvement in public-private partnership initiatives or large-scale infrastructure projects requiring extensive stakeholder coordination.
- Proficiency in using digital tools for stakeholder mapping, relationship management and regulatory tracking systems.
