Job Overview
Stitchtherapyug is expanding its handmade crafts production and seeks two dedicated Knitting Assistants to join the team. This full-time position is based in Kampala, preferably along Entebbe Road, offering stable employment in Uganda’s growing artisan sector. The role supports the creation of quality knitted products for local and regional markets.
Successful candidates will work closely with senior artisans to develop their knitting and crochet skills while contributing to daily production targets. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior knitters in producing handmade garments and accessories according to specified patterns and quality standards.
- Learn and apply various knitting and crochet techniques under guidance to expand skill set and production capabilities.
- Maintain clean and organized workstations, ensuring tools and materials are properly stored after each use.
- Monitor yarn inventory levels and report shortages to supervisors to prevent production delays.
- Participate in quality control checks by inspecting finished items for consistency in stitch tension and appearance.
- Follow safety guidelines when handling knitting needles, scissors, and other craft tools to prevent workplace injuries.
- Attend scheduled training sessions to learn new patterns, stitches, and finishing techniques relevant to product lines.
- Collaborate with team members to meet daily production targets while maintaining attention to detail in all tasks.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Demonstrated passion for handmade crafts with genuine interest in developing knitting and crochet abilities.
- Ability to learn quickly and apply new techniques after demonstration, showing adaptability in skill acquisition.
- Proven reliability and responsibility in previous commitments, with capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Residence in Kampala, preferably along Entebbe Road, ensuring punctual arrival for scheduled shifts.
- Availability to commit to regular production hours as required by the workshop schedule.
Desirable
- Prior experience in knitting or crochet, even at a basic level, demonstrating familiarity with yarn handling and stitch formation.
- Completion of any vocational training in textiles, crafts, or related creative fields showing foundational knowledge.
- Basic numeracy skills for counting stitches, measuring lengths, and following numerical patterns accurately.
- Good eyesight and manual dexterity necessary for detailed work with fine yarns and small needles over extended periods.
- Willingness to accept constructive feedback and use it to improve technique and overall work quality.
