ThreeWays Shipping Services

Job Overview

ThreeWays Shipping Services seeks a Transit & Execution Coordinator to lead its control tower operations in Kampala. This role is critical for ensuring real-time tracking, security, and operational oversight of freight across national and cross-border corridors. The coordinator bridges telematics data with on-ground execution to maintain seamless logistics flow.

Reporting to the Transport Operations Superintendent, the incumbent will manage 24/7 surveillance of company assets, detect transit anomalies, and coordinate rapid responses to emergencies. The position requires vigilance, technical proficiency with tracking systems, and strong crisis management abilities to uphold safety and compliance standards.

This is a pivotal role within a major regional logistics player offering transport, customs clearance, heavy lifting, and related services. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment requiring rotating shifts and proactive problem-solving to protect cargo and ensure timely delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead 24/7 fleet surveillance from the control tower, monitoring real-time GPS and telematics data for all company vehicles and freight movements across Uganda and regional corridors.
  • Detect and respond to transit anomalies including route deviations, unscheduled stops, geofence breaches, and border crossing delays through immediate verification and escalation protocols.
  • Monitor driver compliance with safety regulations by auditing IVMS data for speeding, fatigue violations, hours-of-service breaches, and failure to complete pre-trip system checks.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for emergencies such as accidents, hijack attempts, mechanical breakdowns, or security threats, coordinating rapid response with drivers, authorities, and internal teams.
  • Manage geofence and border alert systems, ensuring timely notifications for checkpoint arrivals, departures, and clearance processes to maintain smooth transit flow.
  • Ensure tracking data integrity by validating sensor inputs, correcting system errors, and maintaining accurate logs for performance analysis and audit purposes.
  • Generate daily, weekly, and monthly transit reports highlighting key performance indicators, exception trends, and compliance metrics for management review.
  • Drive continuous improvement of transit corridors and staging points by analyzing delay patterns, recommending route optimizations, and collaborating with operations teams.
  • Enforce company policies on asset security and cargo protection by verifying seal integrity, monitoring unauthorized access, and reporting suspicious activities promptly.
  • Train and guide junior monitoring staff on telematics interpretation, alert response procedures, and documentation standards to build team capability.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Transport Management, Supply Chain, Information Technology, Operations Management, or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in fleet tracking, control tower operations, transit monitoring, or logistics coordination within East Africa or similar environments.
  • Proven supervisory or team lead experience of 1–2 years, demonstrating ability to manage shift teams, delegate tasks, and maintain operational standards under pressure.
  • Advanced practical expertise with GPS/telematics platforms such as Mix Telematics, Samsara, Geotab, Wialon, or equivalent IVMS and TMS tools used in logistics operations.
  • Strong crisis-management skills with proven ability to remain calm, make rapid decisions, and coordinate effective responses during accidents, security incidents, or mechanical failures.
  • Willingness and ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and public holidays to ensure 24/7 coverage of the control tower function.

Desirable

  • Certification in transport safety, defensive driving, or hazardous materials handling adds value to the candidate’s profile for enhanced risk management.
  • Experience with customs clearance procedures, cross-border transit documentation, or regional corridor management (e.g., Northern Corridor, Central Corridor) is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Ugandan traffic laws, vehicle inspection standards, and transport regulatory requirements from the Ministry of Works and Transport.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools like Excel or Power BI for generating transit reports, identifying trends, and presenting insights to support operational decisions.
  • Previous exposure to heavy lifting operations, project cargo monitoring, or specialized freight handling demonstrates broader logistics understanding.

What the Role Offers

  • Competitive monthly salary commensurate with experience, plus statutory benefits including NSSF contributions and paid annual leave as per Ugandan labor law.
  • Comprehensive health insurance coverage for the employee and immediate dependents, access to private medical facilities in Kampala and Entebbe.
  • Monthly transport and lunch allowances to support daily commuting and meals, recognizing the demands of shift work and city travel.
  • Opportunities for professional development through sponsored training in advanced telematics systems, logistics management, and safety certification programs.
  • Career progression path within ThreeWays Shipping Services Group, with potential advancement to senior monitoring, operations planning, or transport management roles.
