Job Overview

G4S Security Services Uganda Limited is seeking a qualified Accountant to join their finance team in Uganda. This full-time position plays a vital role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial records across the organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day financial processing, ledger maintenance, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations and internal controls.

As part of a globally recognized security services provider, the Accountant will contribute to the financial stability and operational efficiency of G4S Uganda. The role requires close collaboration with various departments to ensure timely processing of payments, accurate financial reporting, and effective cash flow management. The Accountant will report to the Finance Manager and work as part of a team dedicated to upholding the highest standards of financial accountability. With a focus on precision and timeliness, this role supports the company’s mission through diligent financial stewardship and proactive risk management.

Key Responsibilities

• Process all payments ensuring they are backed by complete accurate supporting documentation including invoices and authorization forms.
• Capture ledger entry transactions accurately including Journal Vouchers (JVs) and Cash Books (CBs) in accordance with accounting standards.
• Maintain an updated Prepayment schedule to ensure timely and accurate monthly amortizations of prepaid expenses.
• Reconcile all allocated Trial Balance (TB) ledger accounts to maintain data integrity and identify discrepancies promptly.
• Execute monthly revaluation of foreign currency-supported ledgers based on prevailing exchange rates from Bank of Uganda.
• Maintain an updated supplier ledger to ensure accurate account balances and timely processing of supplier invoices.
• Reconcile all supplier accounts to the subsidiary payables ledger to resolve variances and maintain accurate payables records.
• Perform monthly reconciliation of all corporate Insurance contracts to verify coverage and premium payments.
• Manage and update the Workman’s Compensation schedule for compliance with statutory requirements and audit readiness.
• Prepare monthly Projected cash flow forecasts to optimize working capital management and support financial planning.
• Manage monthly filing of taxes with a specific focus on Withholding Tax (WHT) obligations and other statutory deductions.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field from a recognized university.
• Minimum of 3 years progressive experience in accounting or financial management roles.
• Proficiency in using accounting software such as QuickBooks Sage or ERP systems.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS and Ugandan tax regulations including VAT PAYE and WHT.
• Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

Desirable

• Professional certification such as CPA ACCA or equivalent qualification.
• Experience working in the security services or related industry.
• Familiarity with G4S global financial policies and procedures.
• Experience in multi-currency accounting and foreign exchange management.
• Knowledge of internal audit processes and internal control frameworks.
