Job Overview
Uk Construction is seeking a dedicated Operations and Projects Officer to join our dynamic team in Kampala. This role is critical for ensuring seamless coordination between our office operations and active construction sites across the region. The successful candidate will act as the vital link between project management, site teams, and procurement departments, driving projects forward through meticulous organisation and proactive communication. You will be instrumental in maintaining the integrity of our project timelines and quality standards. As an Operations and Projects Officer, you will thrive in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities are paramount. Uk Construction is a reputable firm known for delivering high-quality construction projects, and we are looking for someone who shares our commitment to excellence, accountability, and professional integrity. This position offers a chance to contribute directly to the success of our expanding portfolio of construction ventures in Uganda.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular visits to active construction sites to monitor general progress and ensure alignment with project schedules and specifications.
- Take and organise comprehensive site photographs and videos, then prepare detailed progress updates for internal and client review.
- Follow up on site activities, outstanding actions, material requirements, and project schedules to prevent delays and ensure timely completion.
- Liaise effectively with Project Managers, Site Engineers, Foremen, and subcontractors, escalating significant site issues to management promptly.
- Receive and follow up on site material requests, obtaining and comparing supplier quotations for management approval before procurement.
- Coordinate procurement and timely delivery of approved materials to sites, maintaining proper records of quotations, purchases, delivery notes, and materials received.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project files and site documentation, including progress reports, photo registers, meeting minutes, material records, site instructions, and client correspondence.
- Keep the company’s master project tracker updated with real-time project status, outstanding actions, and key deadlines to support strategic decision-making.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Project Management, Procurement, Business Administration, or a closely related field from a recognised institution.
- Basic understanding of construction activities, materials, and terminology, enabling effective communication with technical site teams and stakeholders.
- Good computer skills, particularly proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation, data management, and progress reporting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, suppliers, and site teams in diverse settings.
- Ability and willingness to regularly travel to construction sites, demonstrating comfort working both in an office environment and on active construction sites.
Desirable
- Previous experience in construction, property development, project coordination, procurement, or operations, demonstrating practical application of skills in a similar environment.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage several activities simultaneously while maintaining high standards of accuracy and efficiency.
- High levels of integrity, accountability, and professionalism, particularly when handling sensitive project information and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
- Proactive and dependable work ethic, with a demonstrated ability to follow up on outstanding actions and drive tasks to completion without supervision.
What the Role Offers
- Competitive salary package with regular performance-based bonuses, reflecting your contribution to project success and operational efficiency.
- Comprehensive health insurance coverage for you and your immediate family, ensuring access to quality medical care throughout your tenure.
- Transport allowance and mileage reimbursement for regular site visits, supporting your ability to travel safely and efficiently across Kampala and surrounding areas.
- Meals and refreshments provided during site visits and office working hours, acknowledging the physical demands of the role.
- Professional development opportunities, including training sessions and workshops, to enhance your skills and advance your career within the construction industry.
