Operations Excellence Lead

Job Overview

TowerCo of Africa Uganda Limited seeks an Operations Excellence Lead to bridge field operations and data analytics. This full-time, permanent role is based in Uganda and covers operations across Uganda and Tanzania. You will lead assurance and analytics, driving fuel efficiency, maintenance quality, and vendor accountability through advanced analytics and machine learning. This is a strategic, hands-on role where your insights directly shape field team success and operational performance.

The company manages hundreds of passive infrastructure sites with sophisticated remote monitoring and data analytics. You will own the assurance and analytics layer, combining advanced analytics with operations expertise to deliver measurable improvements in OPEX savings and service quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain machine-learning models for fuel forecasting, anomaly detection, and equipment failure prediction to optimize operations.
• Investigate fuel drops and load variations across sites to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Quantify and drive OPEX savings from fuel efficiency initiatives through data-driven insights and continuous monitoring.
• Own monthly PM/CM reconciliation against system records to ensure accuracy and completeness of maintenance data.
• Reconcile vendor costs and penalties, maintaining a consolidated open item register for every dispute, defect, and anomaly.
• Ensure 100% evidence and sign-off for all open items, driving accountability and resolution across teams.
• Manage Site Master accuracy and completeness, building automated data-quality rules and dashboards for ongoing monitoring.
• Align asset data across O&M, Finance, and Projects to ensure consistency and support cross-functional reporting.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field with strong analytical foundations.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in operations analytics, data science, or service assurance within telecommunications or infrastructure sectors.
• Proven experience building and deploying machine learning models for forecasting, anomaly detection, or predictive maintenance.
• Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau for creating actionable dashboards.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex data insights into clear recommendations for non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience working in fast-paced environments with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results under tight deadlines.

Desirable

• Master’s degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, or a related field would be an advantage.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud for scalable data solutions.
• Familiarity with telecommunications infrastructure, including tower operations, passive infrastructure, or network assurance.
• Certification in project management (PMP, PRINCE2) or data science (Google Data Analytics, IBM Data Science) to demonstrate professional development.
• Previous experience leading cross-functional teams and driving process improvements in operations or maintenance environments.
