Job Overview

CIM Innovations is recruiting an Android QA Engineer to join its software quality team in Kampala, Uganda. The role centers on interpreting user expectations and turning them into testable product features across mobile applications.

Working in tandem with Android developers, the successful candidate will design and execute functional and regression tests, document defects, and ensure that acceptance criteria are clearly defined and consistently met. A flexible full time schedule is offered to support focused, high quality engineering work.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform test automation and utilize test automation tools to improve efficiency across the Android development lifecycle.
• Utilize test tools while developing and promoting advanced usage techniques, including scripting, defect tracking, and reporting workflows.
• Apply expertise in scripting languages such as Python to extend test frameworks and validate complex mobile scenarios.
• Manage the lifecycle of production tools, including virtual reality testing environments used by the wider QA team.
• Supervise the creation of functional test scripts covering all Android products and ensure full coverage of acceptance criteria.
• Create and execute test plans, collaborating with the Automation team on test definitions for new products, enhancements, and existing releases.
• Report regularly on QA activities, including milestone progress, defect counts and patterns, resource participation, and overall project status.
• Prepare Master Test Plans and QA sign off documents for projects following Agile and waterfall delivery models.
• Conduct testing on data intensive, business critical Android applications to verify performance and reliability under real conditions.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related discipline from a recognized institution.
• Minimum of two years of hands on experience in software quality assurance, ideally within Android or mobile application environments.
• Practical knowledge of test automation tools such as Selenium and Eclipse Test Framework, including setup, maintenance, and reporting.
• Working proficiency in at least one scripting language, with Python strongly preferred for test development and tooling tasks.
• Solid understanding of functional testing, regression testing, defect lifecycle management, and acceptance criteria definition.
• Fluent written and spoken English, with the ability to document test plans and communicate clearly with developers and stakeholders.

Desirable

• Professional certifications such as CAST, CSQA, ISTQB, CQE, CMST, or CSTE that validate formal quality assurance competence.
• Experience testing data intensive or business critical Android products in production scale environments.
• Familiarity with Agile and waterfall delivery models, including Master Test Plan preparation and formal QA sign off.
• Exposure to virtual reality testing environments, immersive applications, or emerging mobile platforms relevant to CIM Innovations.
• Previous collaboration with distributed development teams across multiple time zones or functional specializations.
