Job Overview

ASIST and Young Engineers Uganda are seeking a dynamic Business Development Manager to lead commercial growth and strategic expansion of their STEM and AI education programmes. This full-time role reports directly to the CEO and involves close collaboration with finance and operations leaders. The position is based in Kampala and focuses on transforming educational initiatives into sustainable revenue streams while maintaining high instructional quality across partner schools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive commercial strategy to achieve financial sustainability and growth targets for ASIST and Young Engineers Uganda programmes.
  • Identify and prioritize revenue-generating initiatives versus impact-driven or sponsor-dependent projects to optimize resource allocation and business model effectiveness.
  • Expand and strengthen the network of partner schools across Uganda while increasing revenue per school through tailored programme offerings and engagement strategies.
  • Design and launch innovative products including curriculum licensing models, franchising opportunities for the Young Engineers framework, and customized corporate sponsorship packages.
  • Build and manage strategic partnerships with educational institutions, corporate entities, government ministries, and international funders such as UNDP to secure long-term support and collaboration.
  • Explore and assess opportunities for regional expansion into neighboring East African countries to scale the organization’s impact and market presence.
  • Represent ASIST and Young Engineers Uganda professionally in engagements with AI companies, educational institutions, and donor organizations to build credibility and trust.
  • Maintain current knowledge of generative AI, AI literacy, AI ethics, robotics, coding, and evolving EdTech business models to inform programme positioning and relevance.
  • Oversee daily operations across all school-based programmes to ensure smooth delivery, quality consistency, and effective resource utilization.
  • Recruit, manage, and develop a high-performing team by establishing clear roles, providing mentorship, and implementing scalable organizational structures that support growth.
  • Collaborate with the R&D team to refine instructional strategies and update programme content based on emerging educational trends and feedback from partner schools.
  • Partner with the marketing team to align campaigns, enhance messaging consistency, and improve lead generation and conversion rates across all channels.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies in programme delivery and administrative processes, then implement solutions to drive continuous improvement and cost-effectiveness.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Education, or a related field from a recognized university, with strong academic performance demonstrated.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in business development, sales, or partnership management within the education, NGO, or technology sectors in Uganda or similar markets.
  • Proven track record of achieving revenue targets, expanding client bases, and successfully negotiating partnerships with schools, corporates, or government entities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly to diverse stakeholders including educators, executives, and donors.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing teams and projects, with strong organizational abilities and capacity to handle multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with STEM education concepts and a genuine interest in promoting AI literacy and future skills development among young learners in Uganda.

Desirable

  • Master’s degree in Business Development, International Education, or a related discipline that enhances strategic thinking and global perspective on education markets.
  • Experience working with international donors, UN agencies, or multinational corporations on education or youth empowerment programmes in East Africa.
  • Knowledge of franchising models, curriculum licensing agreements, or social enterprise structures that have been successfully implemented in the education sector.
  • Proficiency in using CRM software, data analysis tools, and digital marketing platforms to track leads, measure campaign performance, and support decision-making.
  • Background in AI, robotics, or coding education programmes, either through direct involvement or extensive exposure to EdTech innovations and implementations.

What the Role Offers

  • Competitive monthly salary commensurate with experience, performance, and the strategic importance of driving revenue growth for the organization.
  • Opportunity to lead and shape the business strategy of a growing STEM education organization with real impact on youth skills development in Uganda.
  • Professional development support including access to training, workshops, and conferences related to business development, AI in education, and leadership.
  • Health insurance coverage for the employee, providing access to quality medical care through reputable providers in Kampala.
