Water for Good

Job Overview

Water for Good seeks an experienced Director of Impact to lead Technical Assistance programs in Uganda and Ethiopia. This senior role ensures delivery quality, measurable results, and evidence-based learning across all TA initiatives. The position builds systems and standards to scale impact while supporting the Vision of a Healthy Village.

The Director oversees Country Program Managers, resolves cross-country challenges, and ensures donor-ready reporting. Success requires strong leadership, technical WASH expertise, and proven ability to manage complex multi-country portfolios. This is a full-time role based in Kampala with potential regional travel.

As part of Water for Good’s senior leadership, the Director contributes to strategic planning and global forums. The role combines operational excellence with innovation to strengthen sector credibility and donor confidence. Ideal candidates will have a track record of growing Technical Assistance programs in developing contexts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery and performance management of all Technical Assistance projects against grant agreements and timelines.
  • Establish delivery standards, stage gates, and review cadences applicable across the entire TA portfolio for consistency.
  • Resolve cross-country issues and make strategic trade-off decisions that individual country leads cannot make independently.
  • Build and maintain relationships with implementing partners, national government agencies, and WASH sector networks.
  • Maintain a consolidated risk register and drive mitigation actions to closure through proactive management.
  • Develop tools, templates, and playbooks that accelerate launch and improve efficiency of new TA engagements.
  • Represent the TA portfolio in global program meetings, leadership forums, and donor reporting sessions.
  • Ensure accurate, on-time reporting to donors, Senior Leadership Team, and Board through maintained dashboards.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, International Development, Engineering, or related social science field.
  • Minimum 8 years progressive experience managing Technical Assistance or international development programs.
  • Proven track record leading multi-country WASH or public health initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Demonstrated expertise in monitoring, evaluation, learning, and results-based management frameworks.
  • Strong leadership experience managing Country Program Managers and cross-functional technical teams.

Desirable

  • Experience working with USAID, DFID, or other major international donors on WASH projects.
  • Familiarity with Ugandan and Ethiopian WASH sector policies, strategies, and coordination mechanisms.
  • Background in knowledge management systems and organizational learning practices.
  • Previous roles in global health NGOs or international technical assistance providers.
  • Fluency in English; working knowledge of Luganda or Amharic considered an advantage.

What the Role Offers

  • Competitive salary package aligned with international NGO standards for senior leadership positions in Kampala.
  • Comprehensive health insurance coverage including outpatient, inpatient, and maternity benefits for employee and dependents.
  • Generous leave entitlement including annual leave, public holidays, and compassionate leave per Ugandan labor law.
  • Professional development budget for training, conferences, and certifications relevant to impact measurement and leadership.
  • Opportunity to shape Water for Good’s Technical Assistance strategy and contribute to global WASH sector learning.
