Job Overview
AgriFarm Uganda is seeking a motivated Field Sales Agronomist to join their growing team across Uganda. This role combines technical agronomy knowledge with field-based sales to promote and distribute high-quality agro-input products. The successful candidate will work directly with farmers, agro-dealers, and cooperatives to increase product adoption and improve farm productivity.
Based in various regions of Uganda, the Field Sales Agronomist will be responsible for building strong relationships in the agricultural value chain while achieving sales targets. This is a full-time position ideal for someone passionate about agriculture and farmer empowerment.
The role offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact on food security and rural livelihoods through expert product recommendations and field support.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular field visits to farms and agro-dealer outlets to promote AgriFarm Uganda’s product range including seeds, fertilizers, and crop protection solutions.
- Provide technical advice to farmers on proper product application, timing, and agronomic best practices to maximize yield and profitability.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including lead farmers, village agents, and agricultural cooperatives.
- Monitor competitor activities and market trends, providing regular feedback to the sales and marketing team for strategic planning.
- Achieve monthly and quarterly sales targets through effective territory management and customer engagement strategies.
- Organize and participate in farmer training sessions, demonstration plots, and field days to showcase product performance.
- Collect and report field data on crop conditions, pest outbreaks, and farmer feedback to support product development and improvement.
- Ensure timely collection of payments and follow up on outstanding accounts while maintaining accurate sales records.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agriculture, or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of three years of proven experience in sales of agro-inputs, fertilizers, seeds, or crop protection products in Uganda or similar markets.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information clearly to farmers with varying levels of education and experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the capacity to work independently and manage a sales territory with minimal supervision.
- Valid motorcycle riding permit and ability to travel extensively across rural and remote areas of Uganda.
Desirable
- Experience working with seed companies, fertilizer manufacturers, or agricultural NGOs in a field-based role.
- Knowledge of Ugandan agro-ecological zones and major crops such as maize, beans, cassava, coffee, and horticultural produce.
- Familiarity with digital tools for sales tracking, GPS mapping, and farmer data collection.
- Previous involvement in farmer field schools, extension programs, or agricultural shows and exhibitions.
- Ability to speak one or more local languages in addition to English, enhancing communication with farming communities.
