This part-time role is designed for an experienced finance professional who can provide strategic oversight and operational excellence without the commitment of a full-time position. The ideal candidate will act as a catalyst for financial maturity, bringing best practices and disciplined controls to a growing microfinance institution.

The Fractional CFO will work collaboratively with the existing finance team and executive leadership to ensure that financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow planning are robust and reliable. This position is critical for building investor confidence, securing funding, and ensuring the long-term viability of Yopsa Microfinance’s mission-driven work in the Ugandan financial services sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial reporting and management accounts for executive review.
  • Lead the development of comprehensive budgets, forecasts, and cash flow planning models to guide strategic decision-making.
  • Strengthen internal financial controls and ensure timely follow-up on audit recommendations to mitigate risk.
  • Assess the profitability of individual branches and loan products to inform resource allocation and growth strategies.
  • Support funding applications and prepare clear, compelling investor reports that highlight financial performance and impact.
  • Coach and mentor the existing finance team to build internal capacity and promote professional development.
  • Review and optimize financial processes to improve efficiency and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Provide ad-hoc financial analysis and strategic insights to support leadership during periods of expansion or change.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Hold a professional accounting qualification such as CPA, ACCA, or an equivalent international certification recognized in Uganda.
  • Demonstrate proven senior finance leadership experience with a track record of managing financial operations in a dynamic environment.
  • Exhibit strong financial modelling, reporting, and analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets.

Desirable

  • Have specific experience working within the microfinance or broader financial services sector in East Africa.
  • Display prior experience in supporting funding applications, investor relations, or impact reporting for development finance institutions.
  • Be proficient in advanced Excel modelling and the use of financial management software common in Ugandan organizations.

What the Role Offers

  • A competitive and flexible part-time compensation package that reflects the senior level of expertise and strategic impact required.
  • The opportunity to work with a mission-driven organization making a tangible difference in financial inclusion across Uganda.
  • A collaborative work environment with access to experienced leadership and a dedicated finance team eager to learn and grow.
  • Professional development support and the chance to build a strong reputation within the regional microfinance community.
  • Reimbursed travel expenses for site visits to branch locations, ensuring practical engagement with field operations.
