Job Overview

The Uganda Network of Businesses (UNB) is offering ten graduate internship positions for motivated recent graduates who wish to gain practical experience in business development, policy analysis, and stakeholder engagement. As a mission‑driven not‑for‑profit organisation, UNB focuses on empowering Ugandans to start, sustain, and grow safe, legal, and ethical businesses. Interns will work closely with senior staff and contribute to projects that support inclusive livelihoods and economic development across the country. This programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real‑world workplace demands, providing interns with a solid foundation for future careers. Key Responsibilities

Interns will assist the policy team in reviewing and analysing public policies that affect the business environment. They will help prepare briefs, summaries, and presentations for stakeholders and decision‑makers. This work supports UNB’s evidence‑based advocacy efforts to shape favourable regulations that encourage entrepreneurship and fair competition.

They will support the Business Knowledge and Skills Development unit by organising training sessions, mentoring workshops, and business clinics for small and medium enterprises. Interns will take notes, prepare materials, and follow up with participants to ensure learning objectives are met. They will also gather feedback from trainees to improve future programmes and increase impact.

In addition, interns will contribute to building networks and linkages between businesses, helping to identify potential partners for value chain collaboration. They will research potential collaborators, prepare introductory emails, and arrange meetings that facilitate cooperation. By strengthening these linkages, interns help reduce transaction costs and improve market access for participating firms.

Interns will also assist in monitoring and evaluation activities, collecting data, and preparing reports that track what works and what does not work for businesses. They will use simple data collection tools, enter information into spreadsheets, and generate basic charts that illustrate trends. These reports inform UNB’s advocacy and help shape future interventions.

Finally, interns will engage in research and innovation tasks, gathering actionable insights that can drive business growth and improve competitiveness. They will conduct desk research on emerging trends, compile case studies of successful enterprises, and present findings during team meetings. Their contributions will help UNB develop innovative solutions that address the challenges faced by Ugandan businesses.

Qualifications & Experience

Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, social sciences, or a related field from a recognised university. Recent graduates from the class of 2024 or 2025 are strongly encouraged to apply, although candidates who graduated earlier may also be considered if they demonstrate relevant skills. A strong academic record demonstrates the ability to grasp complex concepts quickly and apply them in practical settings.

Candidates must possess excellent analytical skills, with the capacity to interpret data and draw meaningful conclusions. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for preparing reports, delivering presentations, and engaging with diverse stakeholders. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required for daily tasks such as drafting documents, analysing data, and creating visual aids.

The ideal candidate shows a genuine interest in private sector development, entrepreneurship, and public policy. They should be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating reliability, initiative, and a positive attitude. Prior volunteer work, internships, or involvement in student organisations will be considered an added advantage, as it indicates a commitment to community service and professional growth.

Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of Luganda or other local languages is considered beneficial for interacting with grassroots businesses. Candidates must be ready to start the internship promptly after selection and be available for the full duration of the programme.
