As an Incoming Material Inspector, you will be part of the quality assurance team responsible for verifying that all raw materials meet strict specifications before they enter the manufacturing process.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect all incoming raw materials including clay, silica, feldspar, and additives, verifying conformity with approved specifications and recording any deviations.
• Conduct visual examinations, dimensional checks, and basic laboratory tests such as moisture content and particle size to detect contaminants or out‑of‑tolerance materials.
• Document inspection results in the quality management system, generate daily summary reports, and alert supervisors to any non‑conforming batches for immediate action.
• Collaborate with procurement and suppliers to resolve quality issues, arrange for returns, replacements, or concessions when materials fail to meet standards.
• Ensure proper segregation, labeling, and storage of approved raw materials in designated areas to prevent mix‑ups and maintain material integrity before issuance.
• Maintain accurate inventory records of inspected materials, perform periodic stock checks, and support the production planning team with timely availability data.
• Participate in continuous improvement meetings, suggest process enhancements based on inspection trends, and assist in updating inspection procedures and work instructions.
• Adhere to health, safety, and environmental policies, wear required protective equipment, and keep the inspection area clean and organized at all times.

Qualifications & Experience

Candidates should possess a solid educational background in a relevant technical field and demonstrate practical experience in material inspection or quality control within a manufacturing environment.

Essential

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, or a closely related discipline from a recognised university with strong academic performance.
• Minimum of 12 months hands‑on experience inspecting raw materials such as clay, limestone, or additives in a tile, ceramics, or similar production setting.
• Solid understanding of raw material specifications, testing methods (e.g., sieve analysis, moisture determination), and acceptance criteria used in the ceramics industry.
• Proficiency with instruments such as calipers, micrometers, moisture meters, and basic laboratory equipment for accurate data collection and proper calibration.
• Ability to read technical drawings, interpret work instructions, and maintain meticulous records in both paper‑based and digital formats ensuring traceability.
• Good communication skills to liaise with suppliers, production staff, and quality supervisors, ensuring clear feedback on material acceptability and timely resolution.

Desirable

Additional qualifications that would strengthen an application include familiarity with quality management systems and basic data analysis tools.

• Experience working with ISO 9001 quality management systems, including internal audits, corrective actions, and documentation control and management review participation.
• Familiarity with statistical process control techniques such as control charts, process capability analysis, and root cause investigation methods to support continuous improvement.
• Basic proficiency in using spreadsheet software (e.g., Excel) for data entry, simple calculations, and generating inspection summary reports and trend analysis.
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards relevant to raw material handling, including proper use of personal protective equipment and emergency procedures.
• Strong teamwork attitude, willingness to learn new testing methods, and flexibility to work shifts or overtime when production demands require.
• Experience with supplier quality management processes, including conducting incoming material audits and evaluating vendor performance metrics to drive continuous improvement.
