Job Overview
Africa Global Logistics is seeking a dedicated IVMS Officer to join their team in Uganda. This role is critical for ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant movement of the company’s fleet across various operational routes. The successful candidate will utilize Intelligent Vehicle Monitoring Systems to track journeys, monitor driver behavior, and support timely delivery of goods.
Working within the logistics and transport division, the IVMS Officer will collaborate closely with journey planners, transport supervisors, and operations teams. The position requires vigilance, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety and operational excellence. This is a full-time opportunity based in Uganda, contributing to the seamless execution of logistics services.
The role demands proactive monitoring and reporting to prevent delays, reduce risks, and enhance fleet performance. By maintaining accurate records and providing real-time updates, the IVMS Officer plays a key part in upholding Africa Global Logistics’ reputation for reliability and service quality in the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and track the daily movement of the fleet through the IVMS platform to ensure all vehicles follow approved journey plans.
- Track vehicle locations, trip progress, transit times, and delivery schedules to identify and report any route deviations or unauthorized movements.
- Support the Journey Management Planner by ensuring adherence to approved journey management procedures and providing real-time fleet visibility to stakeholders.
- Monitor the timely deployment of trucks and equipment according to operational requirements and track dispatch and arrival times for efficient utilization.
- Escalate delays and operational disruptions to relevant departments for immediate action to minimize impact on delivery schedules.
- Monitor truck turnaround times at loading and offloading points and track border crossing activities to identify delays affecting schedules.
- Maintain records of loading, offloading, and border performance metrics and recommend corrective actions to reduce downtime and improve efficiency.
- Ensure drivers upload all required trip-related documents into the fleet management system within specified timelines and verify their accuracy and completeness.
- Monitor driver behaviour through IVMS and telematics reports, including speeding, harsh braking, and idling, and prepare daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports.
- Escalate safety violations and non-compliance issues to management and support driver coaching initiatives based on performance data.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Diploma in Information Technology, Logistics, Transport Management, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in fleet monitoring, transport operations, or IVMS/telematics systems in a logistics or transport environment.
- Proven ability to use IVMS platforms such as Webfleet, Samsara, or similar telematics solutions for real-time tracking and reporting.
- Strong understanding of journey management principles, route planning, and compliance requirements in the Ugandan transport sector.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, generate accurate reports, and identify operational trends or anomalies.
- Effective communication skills to liaise with drivers, operations teams, and management, and to escalate issues promptly and professionally.
Desirable
- Certification in transport safety, defensive driving, or fleet management from a recognized body.
- Experience working with cross-border logistics operations, particularly along the Northern Corridor or within East Africa.
- Familiarity with Ugandan traffic laws, vehicle regulations, and customs procedures at border points.
- Basic knowledge of data management principles and experience with MS Excel or Google Sheets for report generation.
- Previous exposure to driver performance management systems or safety incentive programs in a transport setting.
