Job Overview

The National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) seeks a Management Trainee – Licensing to support operational regulatory registration activities. This role is ideal for fresh graduates seeking hands-on experience in IT regulation and data protection compliance within Uganda’s leading technology authority.

Based in Kampala, the trainee will work under the Office of the Data Protection Officer, focusing on registration applications under the Data Protection and Privacy Act, Cap. 97. The position offers a structured entry point into public sector IT governance and regulatory affairs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review registration applications received by the Office to verify completeness and accuracy of required documents and information.
  • Assist in conducting conformity reviews of registration applications in accordance with applicable regulations and established processes.
  • Support the planning, scheduling, conduct and reporting of registration application reviews, maintaining accurate records of processed applications.
  • Follow up with applicants on corrective actions required to close non-conformities identified during registration application reviews.
  • Process enquiries and complaints relating to registration in liaison with set procedures and regulatory guidelines.
  • Participate in stakeholder engagements, training and awareness activities on registration obligations under the Data Protection and Privacy Act.
  • Carry out research on registration and licensing practices, including applicability to emerging technologies, to support process improvements.
  • Provide administrative and data entry support for all registration matters, ensuring records are updated accurately and timely.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Law, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Fresh graduates with strong academic records and demonstrated interest in IT regulation and data protection are encouraged to apply.
  • Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and ability to interpret regulatory requirements accurately.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic data management tools for record keeping and reporting.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification or professional certification in data protection, IT law, or regulatory compliance is an added advantage.
  • Prior internship or volunteer experience in government agency, IT regulatory body, or legal support role.
  • Familiarity with the Data Protection and Privacy Act, Cap. 97 and its attendant Regulations.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, training delivery, or public awareness campaigns in the ICT sector.
