Network Support Engineer

Job Overview

The Network Support Engineer position at Agent Banking Company in Uganda represents a critical role within our Infrastructure and Operations division. This full-time position focuses on maintaining reliable network infrastructure to support our expanding agent banking network across Uganda.

As a dedicated support team member, you will provide technical support, troubleshooting, and maintenance of network infrastructure and systems. Your work ensures business continuity by responding to network incidents and resolving connectivity issues for end-users and internal teams across our Ugandan operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to network issues, connectivity problems, and service requests from end-users and internal teams across Uganda.
• Perform first-line and second-line troubleshooting for network connectivity, VPN access, and device configuration issues for agent banking systems.
• Use network monitoring and diagnostic tools to identify, isolate, and resolve network problems affecting banking operations.
• Document all support tickets and incidents; perform root cause analysis for recurring issues and recommend preventive measures.
• Escalate complex issues to senior network engineers or team lead as appropriate; maintain clear communication with stakeholders during resolution.
• Monitor network infrastructure using industry-standard monitoring tools; alert IT management to performance degradation or anomalies.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks including applying patches, updates, and security configurations under guidance of senior staff.
• Assist with network device configuration, backup, and restore operations; maintain accurate network documentation and configuration records.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field from a recognized Ugandan institution.
• At least 2 years of experience in network support, IT infrastructure, or related technical roles within Ugandan organizations.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, network protocols, and common network devices including routers, switches, and firewalls.
• Experience with network monitoring tools such as PRTG, Nagios, or similar industry-standard solutions used in Ugandan enterprises.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex network connectivity issues independently.

Desirable

• Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent network certification recognized in Uganda and the East African region.
• Experience working in banking, financial services, or fintech environments within Uganda or neighboring countries.
• Familiarity with VPN technologies, remote access solutions, and cloud-based network infrastructure common in modern Ugandan businesses.
• Previous experience supporting distributed networks or agent-based business models similar to banking agent networks.
