Job Overview
Farm Africa, in partnership with Tree Aid and Landscape Alliance, is implementing a large-scale clean cooking and reforestation project funded by the UNHCR Refugee Environmental Protection Fund. This initiative operates in Kyangwali Refugee Settlement, Kikuube, Uganda, and Kigeme Refugee Settlement, Rwanda. The Project Accountant & Administrator will provide comprehensive financial management, compliance oversight, and administrative support to ensure effective stewardship of project resources and timely reporting to donors and partners. This role is critical for maintaining financial integrity, ensuring compliance with donor requirements, and supporting consortium governance processes. The successful candidate will work closely with the Finance and Administration Manager to deliver accurate financial reporting and partner accountability across the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and complete project financial records in accordance with Farm Africa policies, donor requirements, and applicable accounting standards.
- Prepare periodic cash forecasts based on implementation plans and partner requirements to ensure adequate funding availability.
- Track disbursement schedules and ensure timely processing of partner payments in accordance with agreed timelines.
- Ensure all expenditures are eligible, reasonable, allocable, and adequately supported by proper documentation.
- Prepare and submit accurate accounting for all project income and expenditure using SUN templates as required.
- Ensure timely payment of all invoices and expenditures to maintain good relationships with suppliers and partners.
- Verify that all financial transactions are accurately coded and posted to the project accounting system.
- Perform monthly general ledger reconciliations and prepare financial reports for internal and donor review.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience in project accounting, financial management, or administration within NGO or development sectors.
- Strong knowledge of Ugandan accounting standards, tax regulations, and financial compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or Microsoft Dynamics, and advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
Desirable
- Professional certification such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or ACCA would be a significant advantage.
- Experience working with UNHCR, international donors, or consortium-based projects in refugee settings.
- Familiarity with SUN financial templates and donor reporting requirements for UK and international charities.
- Experience in coordinating between multiple partners and managing complex financial arrangements.

- Competitive monthly salary of UGX 2,500,000 to UGX 3,500,000 based on experience and qualifications.
