Job Overview

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is seeking a dedicated Project Coordinator based in Kampala, Uganda. This role is central to the implementation of a transformative initiative funded by The Coca Cola Foundation, focusing on enhancing the circular economy through plastic recycling. The project aims to integrate marginalized waste collectors, including refugees and host community members, into formal systems while creating safe and dignified employment opportunities. The coordinator will serve as the Ugandan lead, ensuring comprehensive planning, execution, and monitoring of all project activities across Kampala and Southwestern regions. This position offers a unique chance to contribute to environmental sustainability and community resilience in a humanitarian context.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate with Ecoplastile, the local private sector partner, to ensure seamless field-level collaboration across target regions.
• Lead the development and execution of project work plans, ensuring alignment with objectives and timely delivery of milestones.
• Monitor and evaluate project activities, collecting data to assess impact and inform adaptive management strategies.
• Facilitate stakeholder engagement, building strong relationships with government agencies, community leaders, and partner organizations.
• Manage project budgets and resources, ensuring efficient use of funds and compliance with donor requirements.
• Oversee the integration of waste collectors into formal systems, promoting safe work practices and fair pricing mechanisms.
• Coordinate with DRC Uganda and Kenya Economic Recovery teams to align environmental and livelihoods initiatives.
• Prepare regular progress reports and presentations for donors, ensuring transparency and accountability.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• A Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Environmental Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
• At least three years of experience in project coordination, preferably within humanitarian or development sectors in Uganda.
• Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with diverse stakeholders at all levels.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools, with strong analytical and reporting capabilities.

Desirable

• Master’s degree in a relevant field or professional certification in project management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2).
• Previous experience working with refugees or in the plastic recycling and waste management sector in East Africa.
• Familiarity with The Coca Cola Foundation’s funding priorities and reporting requirements.
• Knowledge of local government structures and policies related to environmental conservation and livelihoods.
• Experience in coordinating cross-border initiatives between Uganda and Kenya.
