Job Overview

Salaam Bank Uganda is seeking a dedicated Relationship Officer to strengthen its retail and SME client base across branch operations. This role is central to expanding the bank’s footprint by acquiring new customers and deepening existing relationships.

The successful candidate will focus on portfolio growth, revenue optimization, and regulatory compliance. You will play a key role in shaping client financial journeys while ensuring every transaction aligns with internal policies and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of high-profile SME clients to ensure consistent business delivery throughout the financial cycle.
  • Monitor branch SME portfolio exposures regularly to verify performance stays within approved limits and loan covenants.
  • Ensure all client interactions and transactions comply fully with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and industry standards.
  • Prepare accurate credit applications and actively participate in underwriting and branch credit committee approval processes.
  • Review client wallets continuously to identify cross-selling opportunities for appropriate product bundles that enhance bank revenue.
  • Retain existing relationships through proactive service and tailored financial solutions that meet evolving client needs.
  • Aggressively recruit new customers by presenting Salaam Bank’s competitive Islamic banking products and building trust within the community.
  • Collaborate with branch teams to align sales targets, credit risk assessments, and customer experience standards across all touchpoints.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Islamic Finance, Education, or any other closely related field.
  • At least two years of proven experience in Banking, sales, or related roles within the banking or financial services industry.
  • Relevant experience in structured trade finance business operations, including letter of credit, guarantees, and documentary collections.
  • Strong business analysis experience with ability to interpret financial data, assess creditworthiness, and prepare detailed client reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated success in building long-term client relationships and handling complex negotiations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic banking software applications used in Uganda’s financial sector.

Desirable

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Islamic Banking preferred for advanced strategic roles.
  • Certification in Credit Risk Management or equivalent professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, or CFA would be an added advantage.
  • Previous experience working in Islamic financial institutions and familiarity with Sharia-compliant product structures.
  • Fluency in Luganda or other local Ugandan languages to enhance community engagement and client communication.
  • Track record of exceeding sales targets in retail banking or SME segments within competitive markets.
